I would also recommend having a tourniquet (sp?) stashed, just in case. I also agree with some of the comments on here that Pinkbike should do a Wilderness first aid segment for riders. Knowing when, where and how much pressure to apply to a major artery that's been cut should be one of the videos.

There is a product called Quick Clot, which I keep in my first Aid kit for multi-day backpacking trips. It was initially developed for military applications to prevent soldiers from losing a lot of blood. People here may want to think about keeping a package in their Camelbak if you're going to be out in the backcountry.
