@vinay: The 4-pot, lower than Shimano XT, brakes already exist. They are the BR-MT520 (Deore level) which apparently have a bit more power than Shimano's 2 pot brakes. They released them incognito for some reason though. As for the early adopter thing,I agree that buying 1st gen products before they are actually tested and proven in the wild is always a gamble that's not worth it if money doesn't run out of your pockets.

Canyon's Prototype Cross-Country Weapon - Stellenbosch World Cup XCO
It's so it can fit 2 bottles. It makes sense for marathon racing since they sponsor quite a few of them

@WayneParsons: I'm also in the small pedal camp, but I run XT Trail pedals. They aren't wider than the Race variant but the little piece that protrudes to the front deflects rocks and other debris and saved me from going OTB countless times beause they don't catch as easily as the cageless version
