Specialized Purgatory / Trail Control Tire Review: A Pleasant Surprise

@Dougal-SC: I would not "ride up a curb" even on a DH bike. I am jumping on them. Even on a road bike :-D The same on trail. I try to avoid, jump or at least make the bike lighter over bigger obstacles :-)

Specialized Purgatory / Trail Control Tire Review: A Pleasant Surprise

Lighter tire only on the back or also in front? I experimented with this as well. Faster tire in the back is fun unless you ride somewhere steep/loose. But I found faster front tire problematic: You need to always think about it and ride more carefully. If you forget for just a moment and try to ride a flat corner like with a more grippy tire then you are going down :-) I ended up putting knobby tires back on my enduro bike and rebuild older trail bike with faster tires for easier trails. That way the distinction is pretty clear and I do not have to thing about it.

Pinkbike Poll: Would You Over-Fork or Under-Fork?

@Neil6: All my shocks do not have a hard lockout but only the Pedal position - so it still works as a soft tail even when I forget to unlock it at least. On some mellower trails I realize that the shock was locked only at the bottom when I try to lock it again. On more janky trails I know immediately and start looking for some spot, where I can switch the lever position to Open :-)

Pinkbike Poll: Would You Over-Fork or Under-Fork?

@jpb1227: You are 32 years old. Biking was still fine for me at that age as well. But it goes downhill after 35 :-/ I am now 45 years old, have two FS (enduro+trail bike) for ridding where it is bumpy, a carbon gravel with 45 mm tires for smoother forest/field roads and a shitty road bike with fenders with 28 mm tires for tarmac when it is too wet everywhere else. I cannot imagine riding HT at this age. Even the gravel is punishing my back if I do not chose proper gravel paths.
