Not an April Fools - The Fort William DH World Cup Cancelled
@onemanarmy: Rare Management have been running the Fort WC races very successfully for a number of years. An announcement was made on 4th March that they planned to run the event without spectators. Obviously it has now become apparent that it's not possible to run the event at all. If you are looking for someone to blame I'd start with the criminally negligent, inept and corrupt UK government.

Not an April Fools - The Fort William DH World Cup Cancelled
"The place has been open to the public" The only thing that has been "open" to the public has been the forest trails. There hasn't even been public toilet facilities open at Nevis Range since last year. "It will be fully open again once maintenance is done" Nothing is likely to be "fully open" anytime soon. The gondola uplift may hopefully be open in the coming weeks. Distancing restrictions will still be in place. "They even have new stuff off the gondola" Not yet, and no opening date announced yet for the blue graded downhill. "The race is cancelled because ... well because" Probably because there's a global pandemic ongoing. Maybe because of quarantine requirements for overseas visitors. Maybe because it's too expensive an event to host when it could be cancelled at short notice by a change in government restrictions. With regards to the NFL - no-one is taking their lead on pandemic handling from the US. As for football matches, a closed stadium match could take place with a relatively small number of people compared to the hundreds that would be required to run/compete in a UCI DH, and football matches take place between only 2 teams making organisation significantly simpler. Nobody here wanted to see the event cancelled, least of all the Scottish fans, but I wasn't holding out much hope given that lockdown restrictions in Scotland don't even allow for people to visit each other's houses until the week the event was supposed to go ahead. We'll just have to put our big boy pants on and wait it out until the next one.

Interview: Chris Leatt On MTB Injury Research & Protective Gear
@cxfahrer: It can minimise blood clotting associated with heart attacks. See this article for more info. https://www.health.harvard.edu/heart-health/aspirin-for-heart-attack-chew-or-swallow In the UK the recommended dose if heart attack is suspected is 300mg. Chewable aspirin are the preferred option. Worth keeping in the house, particularly if you or family members may be at risk.

Bluegrass Announces New Seamless Back Protectors with D3O Inserts
@RonSauce: After a few wears, plastic based "tech" fabrics usually allow you to do both. My bike gear was encouraging social distancing long before covid.

Bluegrass Announces New Seamless Back Protectors with D3O Inserts
@bluegrass-eagle: I'm not trying to give you a hard time, the product looks quite good, but the whole magic fabric claim has been done to death in the outdoor industry. There's no material or combination of materials that's going to keep me dry whilst biking. I accept that I need to wash my kit after I ride, I just wish that manufacturers would do the same.

Bluegrass Announces New Seamless Back Protectors with D3O Inserts
@bluegrass-eagle: It's going to be saturated with sweat after every use, so will need washed every time. Who wants to hand-wash items or to have to machine wash them separately when they've got a bike to clean and a load of other dirty kit to wash. Bike armour manufacturers must realise that armour needs to be machine washable - is it just that they don't want to warranty products they know won't last under heavy use?

Round Up: Custom Setup Tricks from World Cup & EWS Races
@Dropthedebt: It's just 3M Scotch 2228 rubber mastic tape sold in 1m lengths for £12, instead of 3m lengths for £24. Marshguard also sell cable ties at double the normal retail price too. I rather save my money so I can later squander it on slightly less lazy marketing ploys.

Wolf Tooth Launches New '8-Bit Pack Pliers' Multi Tool
I have a 20yr old Topeak Alien ii multi-tool with some of the unneeded spanners removed and replaced with washers. It has a great chain breaker which works with 12 speed. There seems to be a lot of effort put into inventing things that cost more and do less.
