Opinion: Do We Need Size-Specific Chainstays?
I'd like to see these free body diagrams redrawn with the bike on an angle and the giraffe in something representing the body position used when descending challenging terrain. I wonder if the merits of shorter chain stays could be considered as the breaking power biases to the front wheel as the trail gets steeper ...

Lapierre Spicy 527 - Size:M; 160/150mm Travel

$1900 CAD
Lapierre Spicy 527 – size Medium (I’m 5‘11” and probably max height for this frame) Only ridden in BC for two seasons (bought in Ontario). I’m the original owner, and used to work as a bike mechanic, so its been well maintained. Fork: FOX 34 FLOAT CTD PERFORMANCE FIT 160mm Shock: FOX FLOAT CTD PERFORMANCE Boost Valve 150mm Crankset: RACE FACE TURBINE 1 x ring 30T Stem: RACE FACE TURBINE Seatpost: ROCKSHOX REVERB STEALTH - 125mm Handlebar: RACE FACE ATLAS STEALTH Rear derailleur: SHIMANO XT SHADOW PLUS 10 SPEED Brakes: 4 Piston Avid Trail 7s (calipers seem to be what were to become the Sram Guides) Tires: Schwalbe Magic Mary Front / Specialized Slaughter Rear Drivetrain fully replaced when I stopped riding it ~ a year ago, and only ridden by a few friends since (chain showing no signs of wear). Tires and bottom bracket are very fresh, and rear wheel was replaced recently. Rear triangle bearings should be replaced – bike is creaky when climbing. There is also a small dent in the aluminum chainstay – hasn’t been a problem for 1.5 years. Overall an excellent build, with powerful brakes, a nice mix RaceFace Turbine bits, shimano XT, Fox suspension. Could probably make it really modern with an angleset headset, if you felt so inclined.

Oregon Will Be First US State to Tax Bicycles for Transportation Projects
Its true, bikes account for a negligible amount of the wear on roads and the needed maintenance. However, so much of our streets in North America are in need of costly updates for cycling infrastructure. This $15 tax could help cycling infrastructure projects gain more validity and political backing when cyclists are directly contributing over a million a year to the state’s transportation budget. Might be a small price to pay to give transportation planners and engineers the ammunition they need to make cities more bikeable.
