Chasing Trail Episode 11, Shooting Norwegian Fjords - Video

When Mattias (Fredriksson) called at the beginning of 2016, I could feel his excitement through the phone. He had an idea for our next catalogue shoot, and he had arguments to sell it: the fjords, the mysterious ever-lasting Scandinavian light and trails still relatively unknown to mountain bikers… It was enough to make us want to sign the deal.

Once the location was set, we started to think of the riders we wanted to have on the shoot. After a few emails and phone calls, we had put together an international team of riders hailing from Canada, Sweden and Germany. With Kevin Landry, Karen Eller, Janne Tjärnström, Jenny Liljegren, photographer Mattias Fredriksson and our French filmer, Gaëtan Rey, the crew was ready to go capture the Sunnmøre and Nordfjord regions.

The Swedes had a 10 hour drive from Åre to Stranda, whilst the rest of us flew to Ålesund. Our guide Oscar Almgren from the Uteguiden guiding company came to pick us up and 2 hours later we too had finally arrived at the Stranda Hotel, our 'base camp' for the week. A good sleep and there we were, ready to kick-off the shoot on the next morning.

And when you go, take the family and ride the Rallarvegan (www.haugastol.no/en/rallarvegen). Rode it a couple of years ago--one of the best things we have ever done with our kids.

Used to live in Norway and realised I've ridden all of those trails listed at the end of the video, such good trail and for me it makes it doubly special when you just consider the landscape and context you are riding in and not just the trail, it really is epic!

norway is my favorite country nature-wise, but ppl shouldnt get fooled with these mtb videos. from my (limited) expierence (hiking) trails at the fjords are way to steep and rocky (huge rocks) to have fun with a bike. you would end up carrying your bike most of the time and flow is super scarce. even though i ride my mtb once a day, every day, i would not recommend taking your bike with you on a trip to norway that focuses on the fjords.

 Wanna go there!

I've been to some of those, it's an amazing place and I would love to go back Smile

Be warned though it takes a lot of research to find trails in Norway that you don't have to push/carry up first. An easy climb around the back is a rare thing indeed...

And, do not let your van break down. Even you Swiss will find repairs expensive!
