Behind the Numbers: Norco Sight
@faul: Ah, thanks. This article gives a definition of the instant center: "the rear axle moves around a virtual point in space, called the instant center". This definition is based on the instantaneous radius of curvature of the axle path. You are pointing me to a wikipedia page that gives a different definition of instant center, which is the one the author must have meant.

@faul: Or, change the rear axle position without changing any of the pivot positions. The real instant center must change if you do that. This method predicts it does not.

Behind the Numbers: Norco Sight
@faul: Clearly not. Keep moving the chainstay pivot back until it is concentric with the axle. The real instant center is then the main pivot. This method puts it out near the front wheel.

Behind the Numbers: Norco Sight
Are they calculating the instant center by drawing lines through the pivots and marking where they intersect? If so, that's just wrong. That intersection is not the instant center.
