Exactly. I think the broader problem here is also the hypocrisy of implied maintenance and building a sustainable piece of public infrastructure.  Building some sub par "jumps" and expecting the public users to maintain it at their own accord is ridiculous. Imagine asking the pickleball users to patch the cracked asphalt or replace the nets or repaint the lines with their own time, money and effort. They would storm city Council, yet this is the expectation of bike park users? I always point to Steve Smith bike park as an example and the standard. Build it right the first time with lasting features that do require some maintenance but it's such a high standard that people actually want to maintain it and take pride in it.

There's a lot of info missing here. No one was really against the jumps being plowed, they were garbage and never used. The argument has always been for not demolishing the skatepark, which was the original plan the pickleball mob. The bigger issue here is 1) the riders wanted the space the jumps occupied to be made more useful, like a pumptrack. 2) There are already pickleball courts in the area that don't get used, so plowing a poorly used jump park to build pickleball courts for fossils that will only use it for a few years before passing, rather than making it usable space for younger kids like a pumptrack is the bigger issue here. Yes, it is in a weird space where it arguably doesn't get lots of usage/traffic that other skateparks or jump parks get, but it still does get used, more so on the weekends and after school hours. It's also one of the best bowls in all of BC. And it was proven that the pickleball courts that were already available to these seniors with nothing better to do than ruin kid's fun, were not being utilised anyway. So it's a slap in the face

@xciscool: are they the race organizer or just the broadcaster? Seems to be pretty murky and not a lot of clarity on this. I too don't understand why a broadcaster has say in how a sport is run, but then again UCI aren't too concerned about MTB so they will just let whoever do whatever they want

What I don't understand is why WBD is calling the shots and deciding how things are run and who can race. I thought they were just the broadcast team? Why is UCI just letting this happen?

MTB is a bit late to the party. The majority of the BMX industry has been this way since the early 90s. Big corporate companies came and went but the small rider owned companies have been the solid base. Smaller market of course but it's kept that industry afloat for more than 30 years. I can't see MTB going the same though

@everythingsucks: no beef here. As I said, I've got nothing against Cab, just calling it as I see it and what I've heard from him in interviews. Getting off topic now but maybe it's a geographical thing. I grew up in Australia, have been fortunate enough to travel the world with my bike and now live in Canada. The only place I've ever encountered hostility towards bmx in a "skatepark" was in the US. I've always been respectful of skaters and other users in parks and enjoy watching skating as much as I can't do it at all. Not a fan of scooters at all but give them their deserved space and try to educate the youngins on park etiquette. Only time I've ever had "beef" was from American skaters who always instigated it.

@everythingsucks: maybe he does, maybe he should learn to share the park like everyone else? I would hope that in his older/wiser years having that Dogtown mentality is a thing of the past. I heard numerous times over the years (could be BS for all I know) that he was a high contributing factor for not allowing bmx into Vans skateparks for many years. Even Vans pro bmx riders with signature shoes weren't allowed to ride the bowls in in Vans skateparks up until very recently.
