I don't see that here at all. Most guys were open and chatty, just like the women. I guess it's just your own bias blurring your observation.

@Wabit: So you are saying you don't see the difference between cars as a means of transport to get there, and the ride itself? Okay.

Jacquie Phelan! I'm betting half of you youngsters - and probably way more - don't have any idea who she is, but it's so cool to see her still active in the cycling world. The original WOMBAT, and a key player in the early (women's) mountain bike racing scene. Oh yeah, and her husband made some of the coolest and innovative mountain bikes ever, that too :-) Oversized alu, sloping top tubes, long seat posts… y'all have him to thank for it.

[UPDATED] Elite XCO Results & Overall Standings from the Crans Montana XC World Cup 2024
Why make such bold, seemingly factual statements when you don't know what you are talking about? 'If Pidcock wanted'? He has stated many times that winning the TdF GC is his big goal. He wants it, he has tried it before without success, and he will try again this year. I hold him in high regards, but him winning the TdF is highly unlikely. Also, Wout van Aert doesn't mtb races, and it has been a long time since MvdP beat Pidcock in a mtb race.

Video: The New Crans-Montana XC World Cup Course Is A Piece of Art - A Very Technical One
@ABhardtail: The only thing a XC mountain bike race ought to require, is a course through nature. That's what cross country riding is; riding through a nature/mountainous environment, tackling what nature throws at you. If in some places that means less technical skills required, so be it. The difference with gravel racing, is that XC races consists of a rather condensed course, with multiple laps, and taking whatever nature has in store. Gravel racing is riding one big loop, over more mellow gravel roads and singletracks. More emphasis on endurance and speed. A different beast altogether.

@marshallthewolf: And that's fine. Like I said, there's other disciplines to scratch that itch.

I hate it. Man made obstacles, and deliberately made even more dangerous. It's a circus. Mountain bike racing used to be 'hey, we set out a course in nature, let's race and see who's fastest'. It was great, it was popular, there was a great scene. Yes, this new style is more spectacular, but we already have other disciplines for that. Let XC be XC.

@laupe: Nonsense. A well placed fender really helps keeping certain area's much cleaner. Did you ever see a moto cross rider without fenders? A front fender should be a no-brainer for XC racing whenever there is mud on the course.
