Mountain Bikes From the Past 7 Years That We'd Still Happily Ride
@chrismac70: I have the cane creek Tigon. It's perfect for the stumpy- the low pressure air chamber stiffens the shock quite a bit, and it makes it still poppy on jump lines. 10/10

Mountain Bikes From the Past 7 Years That We'd Still Happily Ride
@phops: the CC Tigon is the ideal rear coil for the Stumpy, or any clevis mount shock. It's got a super low pressure air can under the coil, makes it way stiffer.

Mountain Bikes From the Past 7 Years That We'd Still Happily Ride
Still riding my 21 Stumpy Evo. I've just been upgrading parts whenever I feel like it needs a refresh. Berd wheels and a rear coil last season, Invert fork on order this season. That frame is so solid, and adjustable, I can't really justify something new. I've had it built up as a sub 30lb trail bike, and now more as an enduro bike. It's basically the same as the current Stumpy, but with the option to run a drivetrain with cables.

Is the UCI World Cup Prize Money Model Broken? Wyn Masters Exposes Payout Disparities
@bgoldstone: agree, skiing isn't niche. Bikes aren't, either. Racing, in both sports, isn't that different- relatively few people do it, and they are both great to watch. Alpine racers make significantly more; much of that it seems is due to the money in the ecosystem, and the fact that every 4 years, alpine racers become household names due to the Olympic effect. It wasn't always that way, I'd guess. I'd be curious how pay for alpine racers has changed since the 80's and 90's, a couple generations ago. Was it similar to where this current generation of DH racers are, with a handful of well paid racers, and then everyone else? If so, is there a blueprint of sorts to follow, so that when you are close to retirement, the sport has grown to where it has the same status as alpine skiing with the gen pop? I'd love to see it. Best of luck this season! You are a blast to watch!

The only way to get more money is to get more eyeballs on it. A good comparison is alpine skiing, where a quick google shows that winners get around 60k USD for winning; 600+k for the overall. Alpine skiing, like DH, is a somewhat niche, expensive sport- but you don't have to be a fan to watch and enjoy. It's engaging, at its core. So long as the camera angles are good, and people either go green or red during the run, you follow the action easily. create spaces where families can ride together build strong grassroots and local race series have a high quality elite series, with high production quality sell media rights, pay teams.
