@Parkershark: I still ride an EXe and love it. It feels pretty close to a real bike - you have to work and it handles great. If you're getting that good of a deal, I'd suggest getting an second battery rather than an extender. If your trails are networks that loop you back close to the trailhead during a 20-30 mile ride, changing the battery is really quick and easy, and it keeps things light while letting you run the assist levels higher. Just because eMTB's are headed in the completely wrong direction doesn't mean everyone has to go along. I greatly prefer the experience of riding a TQ50 (and probably eventually at TQ60) bike.

@brianpark: I appreciate your taking the time to reply. I know it's a slippery slope as far as your time, but it means a lot to me that you're engaging on this level. I think this issue warrants it. The Avinox motor is fundamentally different from anything we've seen before. It's not an evolution of the mountain bike. It's a step towards the transformation of the mountain bike from something that is primarily human-powered to something that is nominally human-powered. Arguments involving any prior overreactions are nothing more than strawman arguments. I'm not suggesting that voices I disagree with be silenced. I'm simply begging you not to play Fox News to Avinox's Trump. Please don't give them the implied imprimatur of the most prominent website in our sport by not pushing back on their corporate bullshit. "People" for Bikes is an industry lobbying group that does a lot of great things, but did a shit job of remembering that mountain bikes existed when it was busy getting Class 1, 2, and 3 legislation passed. 750W and 20mph are road/commuter standards we blindly accepted and now treat like someone rationally selected them as appropriate for recreational off-road bikes on multi-use trails. In my opinion, they are not. However, I wholeheartedly agree that Avinox should engage with the mountain biking community before telling us all how they know better than everyone else. I hope you'll ask them questions that target their knowledge of our community, trail access issues, etc., and that they won't be given those questions ahead of the podcast. I bet the people who report to you believe you care about them and fight for them. For that reason, they listen to what you say about discrete issues like benefits, vacation, etc. I don't think Avinox gives a shit about our sport or trail access issues, and thus I tend not to believe any specific arguments they may make. I hope you'll challenge them on these more global issues as well as the ridiculous power of their motor. Ask them whether they think the manner in which they have conducted themselves has been conducive to earning our trust and becoming part of the mountain bike community. I worry that you're not in a position to push back against them and ask them tough questions. For that reason, I was suggesting you have a guest on that same podcast that doesn't have to answer for Pinkbike's haul of advertising dollars. I signed up for the Outside+ membership because I hoped it would give y'all more independence. Whoops. I realize I don't have the faintest idea how difficult it is to keep this thing running without any subscription fees, and that I'm offering a whole bunch of opinions on a product for which I pay nothing. As general matter, I greatly appreciate what you and your crew provide to all of us. Thank you.

The UCI made it too easy for hardtail guy by just letting him on the course. At other professional sporting events, someone wanting to draw attention to themselves like that would have to get naked, jump down from the stands, and run around avoiding security while the announcers made awkward conversation.

My experience with the RUNT is that if you're running in a RockShox longer travel fork with a tuned or aftermarket damper with meaningful compression damping, it makes the fork wildly progressive near the end of travel. The alternative is that you reduce the difference in pressure between the chambers to the point you wonder if it's anything more than a volume spacer (which very, very few people need in such a fork). Maybe the tunability of this option would reduce some of those tradeoffs?
