 stage 5, 6 & 7 - this was epic racing. Congrats to Beers/Blevins and Egger/Baum - unbelievable performance.
So sorry for Wakefield/Lill - they really owned the race.

Probably the most engaged I’ve been in the Cape Epic in years. No doubt thanks to Blevins & Beers. Nutty conditions every day too. Stage 6 was almost comical with the overflowing river crossings.

Yes, conditions were reminiscent of a few of the early TransRockies stage races, although a lot warmer in S.A. than Alberta, Canada. A couple from my town in BC finished Cape Epic and were absolutely shelled by the end, as one should be. They said stage 6 snapped 19 collarbones.

So awesome watching them chip away and claw their way back up after Blevin's illness. Dominant performance.

The size of the crowd in the video doesn't match up to the 'liveliness' of the comments section here

 Almost a made-for-film plot line for Blevins/Beers

Anyone have a read on why Swenson and Morton didn't do better? This seems like the kind of race that Keegan is built for.

If I was a betting man, Keegan was dragging Lachlan.

@hogfly You may have answered your own question as you mentioned it's the kind of race that Keegan is built for, but you didn't mention anything about Lachlan. He is a world class athlete, but MTB racing is not his specialty.

To do well, it needs to be the kind of race that both athletes of a team, not just one, are built for.

On IG Lachlan said his legs "weren't there from the start" but they still did quite well. I recon a Keegan/Shurter team could have given Blevins/Beers a run for their money.

Great finally to a tough race. Super stoked for B&B and their fight back from Stage 1.
I also enjoyed watching one of the Wheel Suckers from Singer Racing go OTB right before the finish.
I have no sympathy for racers that spend the entire stage being a parasite then dash to front at the finish.
Other take-aways. Amy Wakefield is one tough cookie. Glad she was able to finish.

Congratulations Vera Looser! Flying the Nam flag high
