Also in SE MI but learned to ride in the Appalachians. The lack of skill around here isn't really the riders' fault, the trails are just really tame from a combo of what the terrain will support and what land managers will approve, so the area just doesn't produce expert riders the same way mountainous places do. Anyway, lots of SE MI riders focus on pedaling fast because that's about the only way to make SE MI terrain challenging.

Are we really so fat that paying $5000 to $10,000 to ride singletrack to bypass having to put any effort into the pedals is considered 'accessibility?' To make the sport accessible is to make a normal MTB that is affordable to kids who didn't grow up with a silver spoon.

With new riders gravitating to bumpless and rootless tracks like Bentonville, what is the advantage of 32" if you look at it in the context of the riding that most riders do (read: berm, jump, avoid rocks) and on the types of trails (read: very smooth) they ride? In fact, is the rollover capability of 29" even warranted for new-school smooth flow trails? Or would a 26" WITH MODERN GEO be more jumpable and flickable? The bike industry selling enduro bikes to green flow riders and then once every green flow rider had an enduro sled, switching to selling downcountry instead was a smart business move. The next smart move is to make a bike with even more specificity to these new IMBA flow trails and that type of trail just might be best-suited to wheels that are in fact smaller than 29" and not larger. 32" is a really interesting idea for the high-frequency and low-amplitude bumps of gravel riding but new-school IMBA trails need MORE flickability and a bike made to lean, pump, hit jumps, etc. which is the exact opposite of a giant super-stable wheel.
