Video: Remy Metailler Rides Classic Freeride Trails on Bowen Island
@Koz1985: there is no social justice warrior in my comments. I’m pointing out the disconnect I the message the video sends vs. the message our provincial health authority is sending. Our context is different than yours. We’re no where near the rates of vaccination that you have in the US; our region had been absolutely hammered by variants. Case counts are sky high.

@remymetailler: I don't think anybody (at least local) is arguing what health region you travelled in. As you point out Bowen/Squamish/Whistler/Pemby are all Coastal and assuming you follow the required masking and social distancing mandates then you are allowed to make that trip. Where the disconnect is happening is around the overall message from a leading platform and rider, particularly given how hard the province and the Coastal region has been hit recently, is that going to other communities to ride is ok. Following the letter of the law is one thing, leading by example when you've got the voice to do it is another.

@danielomeara: I get it. Trades in the Sea-to-Sky are getting pulled back and forward between the various communities as the pace of construction and renovation is nuts right now. For some of them it's a dilemma if they do the work or not. But the equivalency is somewhat off. Remy has choice in where he rides and can easily do his job in Squamish. It's not like it's lacking in trails. The message that the video sends is what seems off. It would be one thing if both Remy and Pinkbike were outspoken COVID deniers and used their platform to advocate a position but it's the opposite. They've been supportive of the broader government initiatives and have taken a lead in reminding riders that they have a responsibility during the pandemic. Given that the province has been signaling a ban on intra-provincial travel for a week along with BC Ferries indicating that all non-essential travel was going to be banned highlighting/promoting a video to an island that requires a BC Ferries voyage is tone death. Keep the video in the can and release it when this is all over.

@mbosko7: Facts are that COVID is out of control in the Sea-to-Sky. Fact is that the provincial health authority has asked us to remain in our communities and not travel. Fact is that Bowen Island required travel out of their community. Fact is your opinion is irrelevant. You don't live, work or recreate where we live, work and recreate.
