Esker Releases Smokey Steel Hardtail Designed for a 160mm Fork
you don't ride a hardtail for performance benefits. Most people I know had a lot of fun when trying out an aggressive hardtail, but I appreciate it's not for everyone

Review: Forge+Bond Shift EM - A US-Made Carbon Wheelset for $1250
I applaud everyone who is able to build their own wheels, but for me, acquiring the tools and skills is not worth it, given how long a set of wheels usually lasts for me

my thoughts exactly. How much is a set of xm1700s going for in the US? Here in Germany, they are about 650-700 usd. So that's nearly half the price for a reliable, light-ish wheelset with great hubs.

horses for courses. My hardtail rides usually include 1-2 hours of steady climbing. I would never get a bike with less than 76 degrees STA. If you ride on flatter terrain, I believe you don't need such an aggressive hardtail anyway, and they usually come with slacker seat angles anyhow

amen to that. This year, I bought a full sus for the first time, and sure it's great on janky trails. But guess what, I still pick my hardtail for the majority of my rides, it's just so damn fun plus it pedals like a dream on long climbs

Fairdale Announces New Elevator Hardtail
honestly, I do wonder how this is feasible with a 29er rear wheel. I used to have a Stif Squatch with 425 cs length, and I thought it was only possible due to the very steep seat tube angle to get enough clearance for a meaty rear tire. I'm not too convinced about that approach for a trail hardtail though - without any rear suspension, you need a bit of wheelbase to keep things stable in steep terrain, as you get bounced around enough already.

I fully understand your sentiment, but to me this is just a much better looking bike than the previous version. In fact I think it's one of the nicest looking all mountain bikes available these days.
