Opinion: The Fight for the Future of Our Mountains
Sort of a wandering article that but an interesting topic to speculate on. When(not if) the ski industry dies, most bike parks will die along with it. The profit just isn't there to support bike parks alone. It's not even close to the rich family sport skiing is. I don't see a litigious fight for the mountains as the planet heats up. More likely is the financial breakdown of government institutions with an ugly free for all taking place for the planets remaining resources. Recreation won't be a priority, survival will.

Downhill Bikes of Sea Otter - Part 2
@Spark24: Most bike race mechanics are former bike shop mechanics, it's not rocket science. Most of them are probably self trained and didn't go to any school or take any classes like you did. That's why you make significantly more money than them. Do you consider it magic when a plane flies? Or just good engineering and people doing their jobs?

Downhill Bikes of Sea Otter - Part 2
@Spark24: Never said a mechanic isn't supposed to do their job perfectly. When a mechanic does their job perfectly their work isn't noticed. You are comparing transportation to sports performance, which is obviously stupid and desperate logic. When a mechanic makes mistakes and puts defective brakes on your bike or doesn't prepare them properly (more likely), performance is not controlled by the racer. Weird that nobody had the guts to blame the mechanic when he obviously failed. But pretty sure it was his last job he had as a team mechanic. Reading Pinkbike comments makes you realize mountain bikers make lots of dumb assumptions in this sport, not the smartest bunch. https://www.redbull.com/us-en/aaron-gwin-leogang-world-championships-behind-the-scenes

Downhill Bikes of Sea Otter - Part 2
@Ironchefjon: Of course he would say that but it's not based upon anything factual compared to the effect Gwin's actual racing ability and training make. Gwin of all people would tell you that though, along with how his belief in God helped him win races.

Mechanics are not a huge part of a riders success, that is absolute nonsense. You could put the best mechanic with an average rider and it's not going to make zero difference in the results as long as the bike doesn't fail. Mechanics are part of a riders success but rarely are they a factor in results unless they fail miserable at their jobs, like when Gwin's brakes failed at World Championships that one year he should have won.
