@ardee: Totally agreed. The Doagh showroom was basically a cyclist's hang out spot. Even in a business sense, old CRC was superior. Buying up clearance / ex-OEM stock at absolute bargains, passing those on to the customer. Buying regular stock from every hole in the hedge if the price was right. But that wasn't "the Wiggle way" I still remember the Wiggle leadership telling us off for buying stock from smaller, lower overhead suppliers. Apparently the big UK distributors will happily match the cost prices of some fella in a shed in Belgium. Their experience in a different industry said so.

Mass Redundancies Reported at Wiggle Chain Reaction
It's a bit of a cliché, but CRC really went from an enthusiast / family run business which kicked every ass in sight, became the world #1 cycling retailer, but as more "corporate experts" got involved, it really started to decline. A lot of the credit for the business making it this far after "business people" got involved were the guys behind the house brands. The passionate product people who made award winning bikes, components, and service. Wish them all well, a superb group of humans.

First Ride: Privateer 161 Gen 2 - The Beast Is Back
I used to be a category manager for one of the world's biggest bike retailers. I did exactly this. Remember the polls that used to run at the side of the homepage. Golden. It was free market survey data. Something Google / Facebook would've charged mega money for.

Nice edit that, love the body position at 1:58, heading for a tree. Wish my home trails looked like that in winter!

Story Time: When Bikes Aren't the Answer
Late to the comment party, but hopefully it's seen and useful to some. One amazing piece I picked up from a UK Farmer and youtube blogger called Olly Harrison is, when asked how we're doing, answer as a percent, rather than the usual lie of "fine" "grand thanks" etc etc. So next time you bump into someone on the trails, and they ask, "how's it going?", try answering with "I'm 70% (or whatever) today" and let the conversation flow from there. Maybe people are better elsewhere in the world, but (particularly men) in the UK, we suck at talking about what matters, and excel at talking weather. Excellent articles like this one share grief and emotions, and I'm humbled by the positivity shown, but without Henry making the no doubt hard decision to write and share it, we might not be talking about this very important thing.
