Video: Kenny Belaey - The Road to Worlds
Danny is a 'Street Trials' rider - someone who mixes a BMX influence to his riding. This is completely different to 'pure' trials which is competition orientated. As amazing a rider as Danny is, he wouldn't last 5 minutes in a comp, the riding is completely different. There is a trials worldcup every year, and they are obviously at the worlds - but there is a sever lack of funds, exposure and UCI interest in the sport. All W/C rounds are in Europe as that's where the sport is biggest. Comps are set out in a number of 'sections' each with a specified route which the rider has 2.5 minutes to complete. The aim is to complete the course with as few 'dabs' (foot/bike contacts) as possible. In UCI rules, any course contact except the tyres counts as a 'dab'. You have a maximum of 5 dabs per section. Every 10 seconds (I think) over the 2.5 minutes time limit will also count as a dab. If you crash, put both feet down together, or put a hand down - that's a 5. Check out this video for possibly the best trials comp film made to date. It's shot at K124 days, which is held in France every year before the W/C starts and is usually the toughest comp of the year http://vimeo.com/23775311
