Riding bikes only ever for fun since 1975, First real MTB 1989. Picked a carreer that i enjoy, that also let me follow my non-work passions. Wife rides, daughters ride (goal check). Total tech head re: bikes and skis. Know way to much about this sport from that end. But beats knowing the last 8 rounds of Big Brother cast members. Stick and ball sports: only one I'm interested in and it's usually 1:1.

Pinkbike Poll: What Do / Would You Use An eMTB For?
Been riding since b4 most bikes had disc tabs, remeber the first Rock Shox.... I LOVE mountain biking. Period. Tried a couple e-bikes, bought one last year. DIdn't ride it as much as I wanted, hell ddn't ride as much period, b/c sometimes life gets really real... any how My 3 fave things about the e-bike that a regular bike cannot do:. 1 Leveling) My wife's e-bike allows her to "keep up to me" She cared a lot that she was holding me up, I just wanted to ride with her. Its the same riding with my friends. They almost all work reg day jobs. They were almost all High level college athletes so have that DEEP base fitness. Ride night is post nights for me a lot (I'm and ICU nurse, dabble in the ER too its a different rush), I missed a LOT of them. This year, hit 6 more that I would have blown off. The e-bike just makes doable. Hell any ride would simply NOT have happened that day w/ out the assist. 2 Effort management ) Where I live it gets HOT in the summer, lots of years I just don't ride if I can't go early. Did I mention shift work? I could ride in 30=C weather no problem, up the assist so I don't redline and get heatstroke (again, that shit is NOT fun). Got an injury you need to give a break too but, not riding is gonna make you a really difficult to tollerate POS. Here have some BOOST to not aggrevate that.... Exploration ) There are SO many trails w/ in a 1 drive of my home ( something like 110 distinct trails to make a LOT of lops and rides), but my friends and I (most people actually) ride the same 15-20 over and over, because they are great to ride. But remember that old skidder road road ( sustained 10% grade al the way up with a couple steep parts for fun) that led to that just right "flow tech" DH that was an old dirtbike up track. Yeah its Great on the e-bike. Hey what about that other old DH trail on the outer finge of the local network no one wants to hit b/c of the 13% grade for 1 km on the up track w/ a 2.5 k traverse, uphill at about 2% on an old double track back to the main network.. Just not worth the effort for a long Sat ride, and almost impossible to squeeze into a usual 2 hr riding window. Actully becomes a personal goto when you can literally double your wattage on the climb, and then cruise like board walk ride across the traverse. Its still mountain biking, but yeah it is different.....

Pinkbike Poll: What Do / Would You Use An eMTB For?
Got my first e-bike last spring, got my wife one in spring 2023. She a new Norco Sight, me a used Norco Range same gen. Got her one so she can "keep up'' to me. She rode less w/ me each year b/c she felt like she was holding me back. She wasn't, I've never given a shit how fast I was riding, but I can't change her perception. Adjusted the settings so in Eco is was a good match . We both turned 54 this year and have been mountain biking for 36years, so we can "Ride". My 63yr old brother-in- law does a pretty much 50/50 split b/n e and reg, has been for 8 years? The guy is a endurance BEAST. Everything you said is bang on. I don't "train" as much as it sounds like you do, but I'm also a ICU nurse (one of our hospitals Rapid Response Team) and still dabble in the ER (did a 10yr stint there) working 12 hr shift work and way to many extra shifts. Not much left in the tank after a 2 days and 3 nites in those environments (oh . The e-bike allows that ride to happen, esp on my swing day. Yeah I just end up riding more. I posted else where on the 3 things that an e-bike can do that a reg bike just cant..... You post captures #2 and #3 nicely.

it's too bad the pinkbike nazis deleted your response to some of my non sense. I would've loved to see it. Whenever you see me being ignorant, hop in and give it to me. I love it.
