Tech Randoms: Fort William DH World Cup 2019
@kannamerano: THIS! I bet this paintjob cost about 1/4 the price of a high end alloy frame. Trek marketing "So now for just 2.25 The actual cost of truly unique alloy frame, you can have our plastic fantastic bike that looks like you spent 1/3 the money!"

Tech Randoms: Fort William DH World Cup 2019
@m1dg3t: exactly what I was thinking. "Carbon is the only way to go for bikes!" (Almost every builder and shop in the offing world) Trek Team "Hey lets make this look like all the amazing small builder frames that are done in Alu!" Banshee, Pole, Turner & others. "Uhhh what just happened?"

Sick Bicycle Co Responds to Anger Over Undelivered Frames
@coyotecycleworks: I found the comment "We had to pre-order, there was no other way. " telling. It came across; ,"Hey, you're not buying a bike, you're supporting a (sssh it's a seceret) kickstarter campaign, that SHOULD become a bike.

Sick Bicycle Co Responds to Anger Over Undelivered Frames
@onemanarmy: I have no stake in this (didn't buy a bike), but heard of them, heard some neg shiz. If you actually read, it was coherent. So 1man, I agree. Reinforces my theory, "to be in the bike industry, you need passion."

Lived here 11 years. Rode this trail for the first time this fall. Just WOW. Good video. The view is great but light made seeing the trail tough. This trails is full on black, even though you can roll everything.

Another eMTB Athlete Signs With Unassisted Bike Brand
I remember this frame. French free ride HT company. Died out when tried to make a pivot around BB dually. Came out in 1999..... Was called the..... checking early videos on PB their riders were gonzo ;). One model came w/ seat collar looked like a spiked collar. Really strong euphemism in their names. Like DeepCove level tongue in cheek......

Pinkbike Poll: What If....?
The question about aluminum (Alu) bike vs carbon. That was pretty pointless. For the current price difference ($800 - $2000 depending on company) the carbon had better be pretty amazing to make me look at it. If alu and carbon were EQUAL why would carbon frames even exist. Looking at a new bike for next spring. Been on my current Alu rig for 9 years (yeah it gets ridden, like I stole it). Alu on the whole has only gotten better in that time. Carbon has 'caught up", and in some aspects may be "better" than Alu (quieter, lighter, stiffer) Lifespan? The clincher, I can take my old frame (and every component on it, Alu all the way) and drop it off at a recyclers. That carbon frame will end up in a landfill at end of life. Spent a week riding a carbon bike with a PF BB (Rocky Slayer). Very impressed, now I would ride a bike with a PF BB (put in a HOPE unit rt away), but I still lean toward Alu. The gains in material choice are less than the improvements in technology hung on the frame.

Have Your Say on the Ever-Changing Bike Standards
@pospist: Pink Bike this is the place I eat crow. This comment triggered my snack. I ride a 2008 26" bike with a Magura Wotan 160 mm fork (1 1/8 straight steerer) at the time short of Dual crowns, no "stiffer" front fork existed. I just spent 6 days riding a 2017 Rocky Slayer mounted with a Fox 36 with 170mm, tapered steerer, & 15mm boost front axle. It was stiff as I needed. I spent the entire time making bad decisions in Squamish and Whister (including a full park day). Not ONCE did my hack, corner stuffing, front heavy landing√ĺ, pilot error bad line taking 46 yr old, 235 lb ass EVER wish for more from the front. Would I like to see 20x110 boost as the defacto trail / enduro / DH & AM standard... YES.
