[Updated] All The Athletes Who Have Qualified For Mountain Biking At The Paris 2024 Olympics
@sarahmoore: see https://www.mtbr.com/threads/2024-world-cup-xcc-xco.1225824/page-112?post_id=16275546#post-16275546
"She's been diagnosed with exercise induced laryngeal obstruction, her lungs are fine. She's doing therapy to learn special breathing techniques to reduce the symptoms. She's already seeing progress and has confirmed that she will start in Paris."
(the MTBR post also contains a link to the Swiss media reporting this, Neff elaborating on the diagnosis etc)

First Ride: Manitou's New R8 XC Fork
@hubertje-ryu: you mean the silver crown on the "pro" level forks? yeah, lot's of people dig it.. and it can indeed look great, e.g. Savilia Blunk's metallic red rockrider (https://www.instagram.com/p/C6A-9_JuMFL).. though I too would prefer something more "boring" by default - but nothing that really influence my buying decision.
The original R-Seven that replaced the Skareb are indeed from ~2005 - back than one of the major changes were going to a 30mm stanchions from Skarab's 28.6mm while loosing weight.. Today we went from 2020 R7 32mm @1650g to 2024 R8 34mm @1450g as biggest chassis changes.

First Ride: Manitou's New R8 XC Fork
the current generation R7 was released in 2020... regarding looks, that's in the eye of the beholder.. regarding tech, at least Manitou doesn't got around in circles "inventing" snake-oil in one release, "fix" it in next generation, but instead just keep using simple, well-understood and really well working damper tech..

First Ride: Specialized's New Chisel FS Cross-Country Bike - Aluminum Done Light
Chris D’Aluisio. An Engineer at Specialized. Smartweld is his invention of how to better align the frame tubes to get better/stronger welds (which as a consequence makes lighter frames.. as you can than opt use less material and still have a strong "enough" frame)

Vlad Dascalu Gets 17 Month Suspension for Anti-Doping Whereabouts Rule Violations
RexRacer's perspective is interesting and novel : https://www.mtbr.com/threads/2024-world-cup-xcc-xco.1225824/page-69?post_id=16239798#post-16239798
We are of course all just speculating - but some time people do stupid stuff cause they are incompetent, sometime cause they try to cover up greater transgressions but sometime it's just a way out of whatever hamster-wheel they feel trapped in..

First Ride: Roval's Control SL Team Wheels Use Carbon Spokes & Weigh 1190 Grams
so.. let's go through the math.
The current Control SL uses 24 DT Aerolight spokes both front and rear; a Aerolight spoke is ~4.3g, Berd ~2g; you're replacing 2 x 24 spokes; weight saving (4.3 - 2.5) * 2 * 24 ~= 85g.
A set of Control SL is 1240g, so you're not down to 1155g.
A Berd spoke is ~8USD, so 2 * 24 * 8 ~= 400USD
Labor cost, Berd will relace your exiting wheel for 200USD
MSRP for a set of Control SL is 2500USD
Total: ~3100USD.
spacedoutboy; Specialized's offering win.. more weight, more money, more fragile :)
