We Destroyed the Helmet That Tops Virginia Tech's Safety Rankings to See Why
@trillot: The abstract isn't all that clear, but this shows a better figure: /https://www.ircobi.org/wordpress/downloads/irc21/pdf-files/2182.pdf
tl,dr: MIPS on a bald head is better than no MIPS on any condition (hair or stockings).
Per this study, If you don't have MIPS, a poor bald sucker will be worse off than someone with hair or a stocking on their head.
If you do have MIPS, you will be better off than any of the above, and the MIPS tends to reduce the significance of your head condition.

Ask and ye shall receive. Long story short, MIPS > Hair > Bald in terms of reducing rotational forces.
"Across all headform conditions, MIPS reduced PAA and PAV by 38.2 and 33.2% respectively during X-axis rotation, 47.4 and 38.1% respectively during Y-axis rotation, and 22.9 and 20.5% during a combined ZY-axis rotation. Across all impact orientations, PAA was reduced by 39% and PAV by 32.4% with the bare headform while adding stockings reduced PAA and PAV by 41.6 and 36% respectively and the hair condition reduced PAA and PAV by 30.2 and 24.4% respectively"

Adolf Silva Confirms Serious Spinal Injury After Rampage Finals Crash - Fundraiser Launched
@Dougal-SC: "How to quantify expenses for a life changing injury". Pragmatically, addressing this question is exactly what injury lawyers and insurance companies work through on a regular basis. Not a perfect system but this question isn't new and has been "answered" in thousands of ways before.
"There's no amount of money that makes it better" is false.
Everybody agrees that money doesn't make it as though nothing happened. But everybody agrees that a certain amount will help reduce some of the hardships. Being injured and living on disability cheques will be a different experience than being injured and getting access to top level medical care.
Some approaches can consider estimated medical costs over the lifetime of the injury, predicted loss of income due to inability to perform previous tasks, etc. Again, not a perfect system and it's rather de-humanizing to assign a dollar value to these traumatic events, but it's very common.

I sure miss when those episodes were 20-25 minutes... the art of concise information is getting lost.

Amazing riding and building. Not super comfortable with the new trend of lines on the malamute. Let's just hope the CN doesn't have to pick some body up one of these days.

Interview: How Does Virginia Tech Evaluate MTB Helmet Safety?
That just means they are building a safer, heavier and bulkier helmet for a given size. Not really gaming the system...

There has been other research performed showing that MIPS will still reduce concussion risk when worn on a slippery surface (i.e. hair). https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35441268/
