British downhill is in such a good place right now with the Athertons pinning it all over the globe. This is only going to help breed even more solid riders, GO TEAM GB
I'm actually in England right now myself (shredding foreign soil) and I can see that there's a huge culture here that can only benefit from more riders all over the Isles.
I'm also moved out to UK last month. I live in Manchester and really happy to see more people use the bike. (Sorry for my English experience.) and agree that opinion.
It's definitely all good. It's not just great for the downhill scene though, as an enduro competitor I'm really looking forward to spending a lot of time at Bike Park Wales
At last a place within my reach. I get so envious of all the us vids and the tracks they ride knowing I will never get to ride those places. Glad this popped up good to see the UK getting a bit of the apple . Yeeeeeeee haaaaaaa
I would imagine to begin with it wont be the best place in the uk with the likes of revolution bike park up and running aswell as other places with decent uplift services throughout the uk but given time to build more trails the place certainly has the potential to be top notch.
Can't be compared to Revo tbf as this is going to cater for a lot more riders, Revo is great but sucks if you can't ride quick gnar - so i cannot take the missus.
Gethin is an old school race venue with not so much of an angle on the descent which will ultimately entice more people onto the uplift like FOD does, refresh this with new tracks and some xc trails etc and it should be great.....lookin 4ward to it A LOT
sorry to say this but WATCH YOUR BIKES down that part of Wales. We have been at a lot of races down that end and it's freakin terrible, you have been warned.
I notice PinkBike very quickly removing a negative comment which some of us challenged in reply. Removal of such comments when most would reply back challenging the strange negativity is not good.

Just looked at system and nothing was deleted! We encourage criticism, that's the whole point of the comments on stories, to have discussions of all types, so criticize away, it won't get deleted. (unless it's a personal attack on another user, or completely off topic)
I live near Llangollen. Where is this place going to be? Looks ace does anyone think Wales is proper competition for places like Canada? I know they have whistler. But also have more money and larger land space. But Wales is doing an amazing job for the DH and AM scene!
We saw more of the lodge than the trails- looks good but I'm not getting a rod on till I see what I'm going to be riding rather than where I'm going to be spending £3.50 on a bottle of water!
My thoughts exactly, am I missing something? Saw a couple of corners and tiny jumps and one techy root section, then a lovely looking building. Not. Blown. Away.
as above, it's just a teaser, and psssst, don't tell anyone, but I reckon quite a bit of the footage was filmed outside of the actual park, maybe in the mini-version in Afan as Bike Park isn't actually finished yet.
I can understand Andy's point. its my understanding that the place where the new centre was built was on a trail used and built by local riders over many years. then a big company comes in with outside labour and suddenly they have to pay to ride thier own trails.
id be furious too. so would you.
might bring a bit of revenue into your god forsaken part of the world andyd2506, it certainly needs it so I would quit the locals only attitude. If you don't want to ride with the masses, go an dig your own trails in a quiet spot somewhere (although I bet you'll be at the front of the line when the gates open).
Is this near kingley vale? Sure i recognise the track, was shown this place by a friend a few years ago and i have recently moved back to the area, need to come check it out!
Yeah it is rather near, just abit north of it, if you want more info on the tracks, visit the pinkbike page linked and email the address in the description, he'll send you a link to the stoughton downhill website.
You live in Edinburgh and you want to go to Wales for a riding holiday when you have Inners, AE, Dalbettie, Glencoe and Ft Bill all within a couple of hours? If i was you i'd never leave Scotland :-)
I assume from your post that you didn't give them the picture. If you didn't and I know the photographer didn't and we didn't. Why the hell have they got our picture???
No support of offers for locals what a pile of shit you take our mountains then turn it in to a bike park for others, oh I'm sorry that's right you offer a £40 discount to people who live within 5 miles what a f*cking joke.
I can understand you feeling sore about that but you do stand to benefit from the facilities and funded trail building too so there is a lot to be pleased about. I'd be happy to have this take over my local trails even for a modest increase in cost so long as investment goes back into the trails/sport and the cost isn't unreasonable...
You have one of the biggest and best new bike parks being built on your doorstep yet you're complaining about it...? Offering a discount for people who live within 5 miles sounds like it is doing exactly what you said and supporting the locals - the people who live in / around Merthyr.
Personally, i would be chuffed if i had some many good bike parks to choose from if i was down in that neck of the woods!
They're not your mountains, they belong to everyone - if you want to ride a venue that's cost a few million £ to build it'll cost you £30 a year - about the cost of a new tyre, sounds good value to me!
I suppose alternatively we should ban all commercial development, leave Mountain Biking to a few fringe riders who "keep it real".

As PeeJay77 said "They're not your mountains, they belong to everyone" and besides they've developed new trails which should in theory continue to be maintained and further developed with the benefit of great facilities too. So taking that into account no, I'd be darn pleased. Locals will very quickly relax once they start enjoying the park I'm sure, Anger will turn to smugness at having great local facilities.
