Fort William behind the scenes

Fort William is under way and here are some shots from Colin Meagher of the action behind the scenes.

Pics inside,

Thomas Braithwaite working in the pits on his Santa Cruz while dinner cooks on the grill. A World Cup in Europe is a lot like an old school Norba, wtih some budget racers opting to camp at the venue. "I quite like it actually. I'm right in the thick of it, and if I need anything, it's just a few steps away. A few of us do this regular like, so you get to spend a bit of time hanging out."

photo
The course marshal is not asleep at the wheel; the wind during the morning's practice session was absolutely NUKING across the slopes of Ben Nevis, and this was the only place the marshal could take a bit of shelter.

photo
Martin the masseur workiing over Luke Strobel after a day of pounding on the DH track. Martin is pretty much the masseur to the stars; he counts Brendog, the entire Evil team, and many others among his clients. Strobel: "having this level of support is amazing. I'd never have thought it'd make a difference before, but now... It makes a focus on racing much easier."

Emilie Seigenthaler likely won't be lining up tomorrow. The new track is a load of fun, but completely unforgiving in the event of a failure to keep the rubber side down. Fortunately, the Scott 11 rider was merely shook up and will be back in the mix at Leogang.

Troy Brosnan is going to have to step it up a notch for the Monster Specialized team with Sam Hill potentially a scratch start after his HARD crash near the sheep gate during a timed training run this afternoon at Fort William. Sam's bike was pretty much destroyed in the crash; the fork lowers were replaced as were both wheels. Mum's the word as to damage to the frame. Ditto for Sam's ability to start tomorrow for qualies. Hopefully Hill can make the start; as a top 20 "protected" rider, a simple cruise down the track will be enough to get him in the finals.

Hill is alive and kicking. They showed him walking in previous posts. The hush hush could be to just not showing his crash. Everyone wants to see the crash footie. Its a crash. The main thing is that he's still able to ride except if his bike is toast.

Can't sam just borrow a bike for the qualifying, giving the team another 24 hours for emergency shipping and repairs?

Who said Sam dosent have a bike? I'm pretty sure he will have at least another one spare, if not... some wheels spare.

He'll have a bike, lol. They've stil got the old Demo's with them if I remember correctly. He's got ligament damage in his shoulder. It's always dodgey with ligaments, but I think he'll be racing tomorrow.

Steve Peat has a spare bike waiting to share with Sam. LOL! Here it is:http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/5149930/ This is sportsmanship at maximum level. LOL!

What are you on about? That's not to share with Sam. that's the Steve Peat Syndicate bikes that are on show for the launch this weekend. It's a package you can buy into where you get the bike, Royal Kit, a mechanic at races and other stuff.

News is that Hill has damaged ligaments in his shoulder. The plan for quali for him is to leave the start gate; stop just after and walk down. That way, he rests his shoulder for Sunday, still qualifies because he's and top 20 protected rider, and he can salvage some points from somewhere in sundays race.

I wonder if Sam is gonna struggle with that- he's a much more honorable racer and I hope he 'scratches' out and gets 100% for the next race. The severity of the ligament damage is undetermined.

Nah, the Scottish juniors, are on it, just had some bad luck at maribor. I mean Lewis Buchanan beat two previous world cup podiumers and two previous junior world champs at the ixs euro cup last weekend
