I am a Chinese citizen currently living in Italy. Without exaggeration, the mountain bike components market in China is heavily flooded with counterfeit products. Even critical components such as suspension forks are affected — in some cases, everything except the damper rod is counterfeit. This also includes fake hubs and counterfeit products from many well-known brands, such as Burgtec, Intend, Title, Beast, DT Swiss, EVOC, and others. In short, except for frames, almost every other product category is saturated with counterfeits. For components that are difficult to manufacture directly, some counterfeit producers even source genuine spare or service parts and integrate them into fake products in order to compensate for technical limitations. What ultimately concerns me most is that many retailers facing end customers are fully aware of this situation. Some have even invented specific terms and narratives to discourage end users from purchasing components directly from other countries. Overall, I feel deeply disappointed with the current state of this market.
