How Much Have Olympic-Winning Mountain Bikes Evolved In the Past 28 Years?
I raced on the 1996 "Atlanta" course several times in College. It was surprisingly tame, but I guess it made sense considering the bikes of the time. The only "techy" part was a granite slab climb, it was relatively smooth, and the only difficult part of it was the steep grade. I raced it on a Hardtail 29er with a 80mm fork, nowadays, it could probably be raced on a half-decent gravel bike. Even though it was 15+ years since the Olympics, all of the TV camera platforms were still there, albeit overgrown and falling apart.

Video: Attempting To Build The Ultimate Race Winning DH Bike | The Belted Purse
Im sure that’s exactly what they did. It’s the same thing that companies do when they sponsor a “Half court” shot during halftime at a basketball game. Some bean counter comes up with the odds of a random person actually making it and they come up with a policy to pay it out and the Sponsor brand pays $X,XXX to the insurer so the sponsor doesn’t actually have to pay out. It’s a really smart strategy, you get to look like you’re putting up 100k but it reality you’re only spending a fraction of that and you get to write it off as a marketing cost.

Deviate Cycles Seeks Crowdfunding Investment
@shinook: The only time I ever did any sort of crowdfunding was on KS for a guy who was making rechargeable heated handlebar inserts for winter riding. He had a slick video and the price point wasn't too crazy, about $100 bucks I think. His project got fully backed, but he kept updating with supply chain issues and delay after delay. Eventually, he ghosted all of the "investors" and none of us got the product or our money back. That was the first and last time I'll ever do crowdfunding.

Bike Check: Sam Blenkinsop's Zerode G3 - Red Bull Hardline Tasmania
Honest question...Does Blenki hold the record for the longest time racing since their last win? Not a dig at him or anything, he's been one of my favorite racers since the Yeti days, but I think his Win was in 2008 and he's still racing in 2024, it's a testament to his long career.
