Video: One Bike, Two Races - Matthew Fairbrother's First Downieville Classic
@BreadGod: haha yep that’s me and the same bike! I’ve got a brief bike check on my Instagram and am working on a more in depth bike check and film for YouTube. I think a light full suspension was ideal for the Smoke and Fire route!

I was using a Kona Hei Hei - 120mm Fox 34Sl fork and 120mm rear, with lockout . RaceFace Era SL wheels on Schwalbe Racing Ray (F) and Racing Ralph (R) tires, 750mm wide RaceFace Era SL Bars, 50mm Era SL Stem, Shimano XTR DI2 Drivetrain and Ergon touch points were all the main parts of the build!

@peterknightuk: that one doesn’t excite me as much at this stage, I love the technical side of riding the most at the moment so would sway towards the more technical endurance races first

@2d-cutout: Really appreciate it, awesome to hear you've been following along! It can be good, but you've got to spend some time to learn where it works and doesn't. I've found it depends on how erratic the riding is, if there is lots of fast changes of direction it will struggle and try to cut corners which will often lead itself into trees/branches, but if the riding is smooth with long corners it typically won't have a problem following and keeping up.

Theres always plenty to learn but it definitely feels like I've made some good progress over the years to make things more sustainable and I'm enjoying juggling the mix of it all. Most importantly, I love riding bikes more than ever so even if things fall apart at some point, I can't really lose! Thanks for the offer, I've recently got hooked on those, they make a great riding snack.

Cheers :), I rode the route twice, over a few days to capture all of the footage and to learn the route, then again to ride it fast in one go!
