Video: Riding in Stunning Madeira with the Portuguese National DH Champion
Thst's mostly to avoid abuse of motorized vehicles on natural reserves (and regulate the species you can plant and prevent damage related to agriculture as muletron mentioned) That being said, it does mention on article 4 (line 1-b) that's forbidden to use ANY vehicle on Natural Reserves (which is where many trails are) and the sanctions (article 12) say there's a fine from 50 to 3700 euros. Never heard of anyone being fined for riding a bike but I'm pretty sure that even if this were upheld the fine for a bike would never be more than 50eur. As with anything its a delicate balance, Madeira main industry is Tourism, but as it gets more and more atention related to mtb tourism and there's an increasing number of people using these areas maybe at some point there will be some annoyances.

Lawsuit Claims Search & Rescue Delays Contributed to Mountain Biker's Death
But the guy could be disorientated because of a head concussion. A nice addition to Trailforks and/or any other GPS/App would be to incorporate an automated SMS trigger is theres no GPS movement for a designated time.I use Oruxmaps mostly because of that, I have it setup for 100meters/15min. If triggered It has a 30 sec countdown to avoid false alarms.

Specialized's New Helmets Can Text For Help After a Crash
@fracasnoxteam: right, but you can specify it....1,5,10,15 min... 15 works beat for me, lower would trigger it too many times This is actually something I think should be made to work in Trailforks app.

Specialized's New Helmets Can Text For Help After a Crash
A long time ago looked for something like this, not specifically on a helmet. Found a decent Free alternative (for Android), a GPS App for Android like Oruxmaps using "SOS message": if no GPS movement detected within a specified interval (ex:15min) it automatically sends a SMS to designated emergency contacts with coordinates and a Google lin. There's a 30sec countdown where phone plays notification sounds if you want to cancel it.

A Complete List of 2018 Trailforks Website & App Updates
@canadaka: Maybe in the future there's possibility to use Mapsforge as a Google alternative?I understand there's a lack of iOS support but for the Android users its probably the best alternative. Like the ones you have (for free) from OpenAndromaps. They are relative small in size.
