@WAKIdesigns: The Ardent Race behaves very different to the original Ardent. Still, on this particular bike, from the Maxxis line I would use Aspens on the dry and Beavers on the wet.

@yupstate: Wouldn't be a better idea to take a trail bike and make it lighter? Say a Giant Trance 29 or similar,with lighter wheels,and a few lightweight components, get it below 22lbs,maybe?

@clink83: There are rumours of UCI lowering the limit, but it isn't official yet. But as you said, no racer on the world is using such a light bike. Most bikes (hardtail) that raced yesterday are in the 8,5-9kg range or above.
