@chrismac70: make it top 5 are protected riders based on previous rounds results, and this gets refreshed every round. That still leaves 25 spots for everyone else plus ensures those fighting for overall aren’t denied finals due to mechanicals

but it does seem unfair on the rider and a shame for the fans if a rider doesn't qualify due to a mechanical, would you agree? I want to see the best and fastest riders in the finals, the best riders not qualifying due to mechanicals doesn't ensure this.
