IMO, as doc who’s dealt w trauma, you NEED the following for dh/enduro riding; full face helmet, neck brace & spinal protection. You basically want to reduce risk of catastrophic central nervous system/spinal cord injuries. Everything after that is about minimizing dents & scuffs. None of this stuff will save you from road rash, snapping a long bone or dislocating a joint. But you DON’T want a CNS injury that will sideline you forever or send you to that big bike park in the sky sooner than planned 🤙🏻

@jever98: Yeah, but did you die? 😂. Kidding. Same age. Had had to dial it back recently, but can’t have zero risk. I agree, protection science should advance but there will always be young fools (I was one) who think they don’t need it.

Where is Mountain Bike Culture Headed?
Every cool sport or activity eventually breeds posers or dilettantes. (Just look at most Harley riders). I'm as annoyed as anyone at the color coordinated "mountain biker" who "pedals" past me aboard 170mm e-Bike/scooter. But they have expanded the trail network & technology we can all use to enjoy the sport we love. Just go ride your mid-travel 27.5'r on a challenging trail (up & down) and you'll soon be reacquainted with why you once fell in love with MTB.

I say implement some safety guideline. We all know mountain biking is not golf...broken bones and early arthritis is the norm. We love to see these athletes push boundaries, but we don't want to see people become permanently disabled.
