1st place not only had some amazing riding but a very powerful message. I think that at least for me when I watch the countless videos on pinkbike that I get so lost in watching the rider. That video pointed out that sure the rider was amazing in it but it showcase the environment that we ride in and so many take it for granted. We need sometimes just stop and realize where we are and appreciate how lucky we are and to make sure we respect it. I have so much respect for that video and message that it tells us.
To me that's actually what it's all about. I love the outdoors, I love to experience new places, and I always appreciate the spaces in which I'm lucky enough to be able to ride. Even the small suburban retreats here at home! It's great to get lost in the woods, see wildlife, and breathe some fresh air!
Thanks a lot guys for all your feedback and comments ! I'm so glad you liked it. To me it was all about nature.
Involving the first nations was not only an honor and a great pleasure to me, but it was mandatory.
I spent one of the best week of my life and had goose bumps so many time during the shooting and recording the music.
1st place had absolutely beautiful cinematography and music and everything. They definitely deserved it. Although I feel that Seth's entry should have been in 2nd
Damien Vergez's movie so impressive! Stunning landscapes shots, riding, sound, natives story cuts working great with whole movie and of course the message!
Beautiful cinematography, beautiful message, and a most deserving win. Thanks to the First Nations people for participating and exposing us to a glimpse at their culture. Yes, this was a mountain biking film, but then again so much more. Could not have conveyed my own feelings any better than this short film did. Thank you.
Was that some crazy cultural appropriation in the winning film or is that just me? I believe the videographeris is French. Not sure who the rider is. But it seems weird to do it a video that obviously alludes to Native American (First Nation) heritage without someone from the culture.
If you skip to the credits at the end, you will find out that the rider was William Roberts and the First Nations Dancers and musicians are credited for their work.
Lil'wat First Nations were heavily involved in this production. In Whistler they had several First Nations doing a welcoming song before all the videos were shown and Damien had the dancers / musicians on stage with him for the presentation.
I have no idea where you're getting cultural appropriation from.
And 45 minutes later I'm even more stoked for this weekend in Whistler!!!
Alright, feel free to downvote me to hell.
