PRESS RELEASE: Bikepark Lienz in Osttirol

On 9 May, the wait for gravity mountain bike fans is over as Bikepark Lienz in Osttirol opens its gates. To celebrate the opening weekend in a special way, local hero Gabriel Wibmer has come up with a surprise: Together with his partners, Gabriel will organize a treasure hunt on two wheels.

Furthermore, the 2024 season in Osttirol will be even longer than last year. This year, you have almost six months – from 9 May to 7 November – to shred the trails in Lienz. At the end of June, the Bikepark Großglockner Resort will follow and add its high alpine single tracks to the bike portfolio of Osttirol. Looking at the events in Bikepark Lienz, the event highlight is probably the 2nd stop of the auner Austrian Gravity Series, where downhill amateurs can gain professional race experience in various categories.

Located between the Großglockner, Austria's highest mountain at 3,798 meters, and the Lienz Dolomites, Bikepark Lienz, together with the Bikepark Großglockner Resort, has become a premium destination for bikers of all levels. To mark the start of the seventh bike season in the region, the bike park is organizing a treasure hunt together with Gabriel Wibmer on Saturday, 11 May. Supported by his partners, the local hero will hide various top-quality bike products and other cool stuff in and around the bike park: the lucky finders can look forward to helmets, t-shirts, hats, gloves and much more. All visitors of the bike park are invited to explore the trails and maybe even hope for one or two hot tips from Gabriel Wibmer himself, who will of course be there as well.

bigquotesThe opening of my local bike park is always special. The fact that it's opening even earlier this year is very cool, too. I'm already looking forward to the weekend and especially to the treasure hunt on Saturday, for which we'll be hiding some great products. I will be there and give tips about the hiding places via my Instagram stories.”Gabriel Wilmer

Expansion of the Flow Family Trail

With four bike park trails, the “Flow Family Trail”, “Alban Lakata Trail”, “Peter Sagan Trail” and the “Welcome to the Jungle” with a total length of twelve kilometers, the Bikepark Lienz offers good flow, massive airtime, tricky root sections and challenging rock gardens – in short: everything a mountain biker’s heart desires. Another treat: You can enter the city of Lienz directly from the bike park to enjoy some ice cream or grab some food or refreshments with your friends or family.

In addition, the Flow Family Trail will be expanded this season and extended by 500 meters. This new trail, that will lead you directly to the parking lot and the cable car, is named after the Austrian professional snowboarder Benjamin Karl (Olympic champion and multiple world champion). The groundbreaking ceremony, together with the namesake Benjamin Karl, is scheduled for the near future so that the trail will probably be open to the public already this season.

Containers with spare parts and tools are provided at the foot of the bike park so that minor repairs to the bike can be carried out easily. There will also be a music night in the Bike Bar every first Friday of the month. The Sound of Bikepark takes place at the Hochstein area.

bigquotesWith its two bike parks, Osttirol offers trails for riders of all levels. We are happy that we have a long season ahead of us. We open on 9 May and close at the beginning of November, depending on the weatherMario Tölderer, CEO of Lienzer Bergbahnen AG.

Downhill cup feeling at the auner Austrian Gravity Series
The season’s second stop of the auner Austrian Gravity Series 2024 brings a lot of action to the Bikepark Lienz. On Saturday, 27 July, downhill amateurs (license or ÖRV BikeCARD required) can compete in eight categories from U13 to Masters 2 (from 1973).
bigquotesWe expect more participants than last year. I think around 200 riders will take part. As a day license is already sufficient to enter the cup it’s the perfect opportunity, especially for young people, to gain their first racing experienceRené Unterwurzacher, chairman of Ride Free Osttirol and involved in the events at the Bikepark Lienz.
With its two bike parks and breathtaking landscape, Osttirol offers a unique experience for riders of all levels. More than 70 kilometers of trails, spreading across Bikepark Lienz and Bikepark Großglockner Resort, make the region an ideal place to develop your mountain biking skills and enjoy nature at the same time.
