Movies For Your Monday
Went in to the local bike shop on Friday afternoon, the first segment of Strength in Numbers came up, they had just threw in the DVD. When Stevie's part came up and he talks just for a little bit, everyone in the store just stopped and watched the TV, it was silent, nobody said anything. When it was done, we all said the same thing, "we miss that guy". Even though he is no longer with us, his presence in any manner seems to halt all movement and activity. I think it shows how much respect everyone has for him and the effect he had on us all. RIP Stevie. Thanks for the memories.

Movies For Your Monday
Standard Films has made some great videos over the years. I still have the TB series on VHS with all the other original snowboard movies of the mid to late 90's. I don't think anyone that watched them can ever forget the "Whisky" series :-). He was in a few of those as well. Another "rider" gone to young to cancer. For those that did not know Noah passed away on April 20, 2017. RIP Noah, and my condolences to your family. Hopefully your days are now filled with endless powder turns and park laps. 47, way too young and many are leaving this place even younger it seems. Stay healthy everyone. #fuckcancer.

Heckler's Rock: The Final Heckle - Video
You know the spectators on the rock have changed when Tippie is up there doing an interview and nobody knows who the guy is. The guy is a legend of mountain biking and got no respect at all from that crowd. If you're at Crankworx to watch any kind bike event and you have no idea who that guy is, you best just leave the rock, the mountain, the event entirely, and go be a drunk ass someplace else. No respect.

Danny Hart's Winning Run - Val Di Sole DH World Champs 2016
@Spark24: If there is a POV run I'd like to see, it's Laurie's. I was simply gasping the entire time he went down the track on the feed. Much like Danny, slightly out of control but completely in control. Speed seemed to be the difference between getting swallowed up by the holes or blazing over the top of them.

Danny Hart's Winning Run - Val Di Sole DH World Champs 2016
@lalodh: I don't think he was wearing one, at least not so obvious like Rachel with the helmet mount on top....

Danny Hart's Winning Run - Val Di Sole DH World Champs 2016
@dbendixen: having your hips a bit more open definitely allows the bike to travel and manoeuvre under you, but it also leaves you more room to get all washed out. His ability to hold on and skip through some of the roughest sections was the difference after watching almost 100+ racers between the mens and women field. You could see he was pulling up ever so slightly to get above the deep holes and with speed was literally skimming over the tops of the rocks. It was a very impressive technical piece of riding, he didn't even really look out of control. The sheer speed he maintined over the rocks was insane though, just crazy good.

@Captainben: thanks for the video! I've drank a few beers like that over the years to win some flip cup tourney's, it all counts. As long as you're pouring it into your mouth, it's in :-) AWESOME!

I think everyone also needs to remember the variety of biking disciplines there are these days in comparison to what used to be. I too remember OCup races with elite classes having 3-4 flights which included anywhere from 50-60 riders in each one. I feel the available variety in biking has lead to a dispersion of riders into disciplines that suit their taste. Personally as much as I used to race XC, if the opportunity was there for "Ontario" enduro would be fun to race, thus we race small DH stuff like the East Coast Open and a variety of smaller events. I am finding the World Cup XC trails these days to be much more technical than they used to be as well, it's a good mix of Lycra Enduro :-). One question I have is as much as the article talks about who's wearing the "maple leaf", who's actually representing Canada in Rio? The guy that won the race (Derek Z.) apparently didn't get invited to be on the Olympic Team, so I'm confused. Anyway the guys will try, but the men's field really has no chance to medal, but for the ladies, Catherine and Emily surely have a big opportunity in front of them. Does anyone know who's confirmed to ride? All the athletes no matter what sport seem to have some indecision about attending. Emily, Catherine, are you attending?
