I'm pretty sure sending your kids to college or trade school will pay off better than being a mountain biker.
I really didn't get the vibe your suggesting, but way to criticize what you didn't take the time to do yourself.
I have a buddy in Washington State who is raising his kids like this, their inspiration was Jackson Goldstone, so far the kids are having a blast!

If a big ride day in your life only requires two water bottles, I feel bad for you.
I'd suggest moving to the West where a big ride day is three to four liters and you still run out of water.

Why be curious, it would depend entirely on the trail, some would be faster for the runner and some would be faster for the rider.

Yup, been passed many times by runners, and as a runner I've passed many bikers, but as much as I love running, there's nothing quite like going downhill fast :)
