Not a grom but want in on the action?

New for 2020, the Pinkbike Grom Squad program aims to bring together a group of young riders, from up and coming pros to the kids just starting out, as they enter their most formative years. These days, kids are experiencing mountain biking in a way that wasn't possible in the past, and access to modern coaching, trails, and equipment has revolutionized both their learning and progression. The young 'uns are doing amazing things, from their earliest days on the balance bike to leaving you in the dust on their pint-sized full-suspension rig with disc brakes. Want to keep up? You can watch it happen by following #pbgroms on social media or use it to submit your own photo or video to be featured on Pinkbike Instagram (only if you're a grom!).

We will not share any unsafe or inappropriate material and all groms must be wearing helmets and appropriate protection.

Grom merch is also available in the Pinkbike Merch Store.

I guess the lack of action in the race circuit lately has forced the PB editors to get creative...and I love it!

I was thinking the same thing!

Maybe they’ll get a chance to ride the Grom Doin’it.

@endlessblockades: Oops, sorry, meant to upvote you.

Out of all the amazing prize giveaways that happen on this website, the only thing that PB can offer to the groms is some stickers and a tee shirt?

 Exactly what I was thinking

 Beat me to it. +1

Eh I'm cool with it. Most groms that are eligible are already on the "parental sponsorship" anyways, better than any real life gift 99.9% of them are ever gonna get!

To be fair, every grom I see on the trails has a nicer bike than me...

Exactly us groms need some support from the big dog companies.

Great lets exploit our kids on social media, another great idea for the “look at me generation”. Once again rich kids with gear and camera equipment FTW.

i thought the same. getting kids into bikes: cool. teaching kids to care about instagram and likes: not cool.

I agree with you fully. I want to enter this contest, but I dont think I have a chance. I have been sending it on a $140, 40 pound nishiki hardtail with like 50 mils of pogo stick in the front for a long time. I am finally at the point where I can buy a used full supension mtb for $850 USD. All money that I made. I have been working a job since I was old enough, and before that I mowed lawns and shoveled driveways. I went to north carolina recently, and I saw kids younger than me (Im 15) on thousand-dollar bikes that they obviously did not buy. One of them was even complaining to his dad that he had to use the 'old' bike, which was a specialized with hydraulic disc brakes and a great fork.

@brokemywristbyfallingoffmybike: i worked all holidays to buy my own 4k bike. get so pissed off by little shits with all the gear and no idea with rich parents.

@brokemywristbyfallingoffmybike: good for you!! the difference here is you will f*cking LOVE your new bike and its going to mean a ton to you. The kids that get all the best stuff (Whistler kids for example, i coached them) never really get the stoke from a new bike or whatever, as theyre just used to it. And as soon as theyre old enough to have to pay for them, they gona be bummed haha.

So good on ya, youll have learnt so many skills riding a short travel hardtail too!

@PeterT: Thanks man! Credit to my parents for teaching me to appreciate what I have. Lessons taught at a young age go a long way.
  • 2 0
@rockyj: Damn that's a heck of a grind! Whistler kids have nothing on you

@brokemywristbyfallingoffmybike: bro i feel ya. im 13 and im frickin blessed to have a 1700 dollar bike but i saved up for a LONG time picking blueberries at my local blueberry farm.

GROM noun- a talented child prodigy,on a bike, that has been supplied by parents, not sponsership ie. Great Reserves Of Money

@jjhobbs: probably the best definition ive heard yet.
  • 2 0
@brokemywristbyfallingoffmybike: cheers bra.. keep at it though, and enjoy the ride
  • 1 3
@jjhobbs: a kid who has unselfish parents that are willing to buy an awesome kids bike instead of a 10k dream bike for themselves that cases every jump they send.
  • 4 0
@Davidm816: mmm,no sorry, cant see it.. you may be slightly naive, but that's nice...
  • 3 1
@Davidm816: I ride with a guy who took the XTR off of his bike, put it on his 11 year old daughers bike and now he is on some old XT stuff.....(daughter won a race yesterday in Alabama - one of many).

“Grommet” surfing term, just means little kid, thus under 16yo. (I would argue for under 14, but internet rules) I wish we would all calm down. This world is big enough for us all to ride bikes, cut the locals only/ nimby/ elite stuff, go get a huffy and have fun.

@Davd9235: "go get a huffy and have fun" lmao
