I have always wanted to build a trail, but not the kind where you make some ruts and small jumps, with some up hill sections here and there. Rather, I dreamed of building a freeride trail, one with lots of jumps... big jumps.
Coming from a dirt jump background, the most fun I have on a Downhill bike is jumping it. I knew of a piece of property close to home that would suite my dream perfectly. After months of dreaming, and talking about the project with my friend Connor, we decided to try our best to turn the idea into a reality. The first step was to get access to the land, after some time convincing people we made it happen. The next step was to get our hands on a tractor of some sort. Thanks to our friends at DZR Shoes and VP Components we were able to rent a mini excavator for a week, giving us the perfect amount of time to clear the trail.
Here in California we experienced a drought for a few months, leaving the dirt bone dry. After waiting for what seemed like forever, we got the moisture we needed to sculpt the trail from piles of dirt to packed lips and landings. I built up my bike with my new Kore components, and we finally got to filming. Connor and I had help shooting from our friends Andrew Squires and Aaron Bowles. This project has seen its ups and downs, and opened my eyes to how hard it is to create a trail from scratch, and film the process. It still amazes me that months of hard work building translates to a 4 minute video. We hope you enjoy our Vision.
