A Broken Collarbone Takes Loic Bruni Out of the Fort William DH World Cup
@ed91: while the jumps and speeds involved in SX are massively bigger than the ones on DH racing, the conditions are much more tightly controlled. The track is smoother, there isn't sudden changes in grip, and in general you race in a track that stays more or less the same through the whole weekend (thanks to massive amounts of work!). I'm not implying SX is a walk in the park by any means, but merely pointing some additional random factors conditioning the experience for the DH racers.

19 Race Bikes from Peaty's Steel City Downhill 2022
@PHeller: it's not just geometry. Rapid changing industry standards/programmed obsolescence is a thing. Just look at the "old" 12x142 rear hub standard, or the current tendency to phase out 27.5...

Orange Launches Its New 279 Downhill Bike
@justanotherusername: it's not that they won't change the design, it's how ridiculously their "innovations" are marketed. Moving a pivot point a couple millimeters up one year and then down the next one and always claim an improvement is pure marketing lingo bingo. Their rationale for building the rear triangles with several metal plates one season and then in a monocoque way the next one, only to fall back to multiple plates the following one while always claiming moar rigidity, moar progression, moar whatever is appalling. I understand, you like them, and they might be an acquired taste, but c'mon, they need to get their shit together and stop throwing unsustainable claims out their window.
