Day 3 at the US Open here in Vernon New Jersey just got wrapped up, and wow what a day it was! Downhill qualifying went down without a flaw, and Giant Slalom was put under wraps.

Check inside for photos from day 3 at the US Open...Day 3 wrapped up the Giant Slalom event for the US Open, Brendan Fairclough and Jill Kintner will be taking home the first place title for this year. On the other side of the spectrum 'sick' Mick Hannah took first place for qualifying on the DH course, and Mellisa Buhl qualified first on the girls side. Both posted awesome times so its going to be an exciting day of racing tomorrow!

Here is a number of shots from today documenting the festivities. Enjoy!

American Mitch Ropelato was looking so fast today, until his unfortunate crash in the Giant Slalom finals. He still finished second though!

The announcers kept the PA fresh and music playing all day

Troy Brosnan looked fast as well today. He managed to beat Sam Hills time on the Giant Slalom course, so that's bragging rights I'm sure!

It's amazing how fun Diablo is. I wish we were doing a camp out there again this summer. We had so much fun there last time. It's great seeing the photos and knowing the lines and getting stoked to so many riders pinning it.

just out of curiousity, how come Lopes doesnt wear a full face?
  • 8 10
Same reason he would say "Yes Mr Troy Lee, I want flaming red knee shins because people won't buy them because they look stupid, and yes Mr Lee, I AM that arrogant"

How about because he is 2 legit 2 quit?

Personal preference, but I know if I was riding at his speed, you couldn't get me on course without a full face and full armor!

I love the feel of a half shell or XC helmet, but I won't wear one, because 90% of my crashes have NOT been onto the top of my head, mainly the side of my face...

Perhaps it's because he grew up in the old school, and full faces have really only caught on recently...Maybe it's because he thinks it's cool to wear goggles and a half shell Razz

and after Ropelato's crash where he knocked himself out and slid face first across a wooden bridge with his helmet catching and bouncing his head on every single rung I think Lopes may seriously be reconsidering. Mitch's fullface and neck brace probably saved his life, Lope's XC helmet wouldn't have done much. He knows that.

goggles and and a half shell.... TURTLE POWER!

Maybe because he's sponsored by oakley and likes to rep their hideous glasses? although i guess he could rep their goggles and a troy lee lid just as easliy... Ah whatever, he's still a tool.

he just doesn't want to hide his face,he's so glam.

I personally think he is a moron for wearing a cycling helmet, rocks punch through those so easily! One crash and he'll be a turnip!
  • 1 1
Honestly, how was he even ALLOWED to wear that thing?

I don't care for the guy. no disrespect to his skills, but every interview and video I have seen him in he has just come off as a d-bag with an annoying nasal voice. But honestly I couldn't resist the Ninja Turtles joke. For the record I'm talking about Lopes.

Excellent photos tho, course looks awesome!

but seriously, when did you last see Lope's crash? He rides like a machine.... and quite possibly is one... if he wants to rep the old skool look and not be a tart in an mx helmet, then respect that!

Lopes kills it, no doubt, doesn't mean I don't think he is a D-bag with an annoying voice.

in all honesty, think how much faster lopes would be if he was on a 4x specific bike
  • 2 0
see you there dude! today was epic

not really, the mojo is a great bike
  • 4 3
i know and im not saying it isnt, but its an all mountain targeted frame. its soul purpose isnt to be a 4x machine unlike many of the other's bikes. so im just wondering how being on a 4x/ds specific bike would affect his riding/results/ect.

Ropelato was on a hardtail, Brendan, Troy and Sam were on SX's
  • 1 1
Colin 994, Brian prbly has a completely custom mojo for 4x
does his bike look like a regular mojo?
i think not
  • 2 0
 no, its the same
