2014 Sun Peaks Bike Park Update #5

by Sun Peaks
With only a day’s time standing in the way of lift accessed descents, the Sun Peaks Bike Park is ready to ride and we’re chomping at the bit to get out there! Mother Nature has shown her love for her fellow cyclists (we just assume she rides, why wouldn’t she?) providing the perfect amount of precipitation over the past couple weeks, making for perfect conditions for fine tuning all the new features and revamped sections of existing trail.

The old wooden wall ride on ‘Steam Shovel’ has been a fun feature for years, but time had finally caught up with it and an alternative was needed. You’ll now find a drop leading you into a giant berm in its wake, checking speeds before the final jump line which has also seen a complete makeover.

Steam Shovel 2014

Last summer we were able to completely rework most of Smooth Smoothie with a wider trail full of berms and small features, which has now been completed all the way to the bottom thanks to a couple days of machine time. This buffed and flowy trail is great for beginners to get a feel of the park, and for riders of all levels to shake off the rust before stepping up to more advanced trails.

Oh yeah, did we mention the Anthill Films crew brought Matt Hunter and Thomas Vanderham up to session the park yesterday, filming a segment for an upcoming Sony Dream Capture video using the versatile Sony Action Cam? We won’t spoil your viewing experience by leaking any more details, but it sounds like they’ve got yet another awesome video in the works. The guys were stoked with the pre-season trail conditions out there, and they’re all yours to shred with lift access starting tomorrow! We snapped a few shots as they dropped into ‘Homerun’, stay tuned for the video coming soon.

As always please scope out any new features before riding them, as many of your favourite trails have seen substantial changes since your last ride. We hope to see all your smiling faces out on the trails tomorrow morning, and we wish you all a great first day in the park!

@extremedhbiker silverstar is a blown out mountain with mole hills for jumps, prostar is pretty fun but I'd ride sun peaks over silverstar any day! The tech at silverstar doesn't come close to the tech at sun peaks either. Respect the work that they have put into the trails to make them better! Biker X used to be a rim denting trail and it's finally gotten a much needed make over.

Sun Peaks is a great place for a DH rider to get comfortable at speed and smash some turns. Keep the tech and slope style separate though.

you bet! our gnar has just gotten scrapped back to its original glory, no jumps or manicuring there. The only run that has gotten some flow work done are the jump trails... okay Steam Shovel, the rest of our mountain is pretty raw! its the racers like you that keep our passion alive! Cheers!

I really disagree with you on that, after "ridjng" the trails I think riders will be disappointed mostly with the biker x because now it's just riding up and down piles of dirt that have no stunts and no passion put into the building of that trail! bring the mountain back to how it was in 2011!!
last year, the berms on steam shovel creators that were a foot deep and multiple of them. Silver Star is a much better mountain!
4 people are not enough for a mountain that size plus i here you guys want to expand the bike park to another hill but I think a few people will agree with me, you guys are at least 10 years from that ever happening because the amount of work that would have to go into the trails would be to much,...... oh don't even get me started on how people work now a days !! thats a funny topic because It would go for long time.

Your Wrong. The Sun Peaks trail crew has done a fantastic job building/maintaining such a large mountain with such a small crew. if you can't respect the hard work others put in for the benefit of you and your fellow riders, maybe you shouldn't be riding at Sun Peaks anyways.

P.S. sometimes people spell things incorrectly, and dont catch it. DEAL WITH IT.

i appreciate the support!! and extremedhbiker, hate to break it too you but you are slightly miss informed the "New Mountain" project are enduro trails that our trail crew will NOT be responsible for so we are not taking on new trails so don't worry... and as for lack of passion........ il let you stick to your own opinion but keep in mind you are talking about four mtn bikers that slave all day to build trails for the public...... there is plenty of passion in these trails, if you cant see that then you seem to be missing out, im sorry for your loss!! these trails are looking better than ever and that is feed back from the people riding them! have fun at silver star! im sure the people riding Sun Peaks will be VERY happy with their choice Wink

not riding Sun Peaks any more. to much money for only 20 trails and they only fix the trails once in the season!
  • 4 3
I can promise you that we are on the hill all season fixing, buffing and adding. Im sorry our trails arent enough for you however 20 runs with a four man crew is more than enough to maintain. Again thank you for your concern. We 3 haters!!

sounds more like 3 men and one immature brat, way to represent Sun Peaks

 biker-x is poorly built

I would strongly disagree with you. After building it then ridjng it i think riders will have a much better time! But thank you for your concern. Guess you will have to ride it to make a FACTUAL conclusion on it!

I disagree, I am actually stoked to ride bikerx compared to what it's been like for the past couple seasons, it looks so prime and buff, good work! See ya'll out there at 10am!!
