I think it depends on the rider physical measurements. I'm short and 29 is the limit for rear wheel. I still can buzz my rear on the rear tire on steep chutes and jumps. I do like how 29 wheels handle though, but actually 27.5 rear is the best fit for me.

Downcountry is legit. I always downcountry my lower travel bikes and always enduro-ize my trail bikes. Making mtbs more downhill oriented is for the fun factor.

Yeah. The 50lb+ ebikes don't handle well in my opinion, but I'm a lighter rider (135lbs). I bought one and sold it quickly because it didn't handle well compared to my regular nimble trail bike. Sluggish and heavy handling.
But apparently many want the power over more nimble handling.
