Each uni ranks its top 4 riders so for racing all the number 4’s go, then the 3’s etc. However some uni’s may have lots of fast riders, whereas for other uni’s their no.1 rider could be riding in their first ever race. This causes lots of riders to catch the rider in front, who may or may not move over, dependent on if they know the rules of racing DH. I’m sure this happened to many people this year, but one case in particular was Chris Hutchens (07/08 Student Champ). He was incredibly fast past us in the bottom woods, caught the rider in front who didn’t get out of the way, and who ended up crashing into Chris as he tried to overtake him. The commissaire decided not to award Chris a re-run and Edinburgh lost the team gold by 1 second. Pretty gutting for Edinburgh that Chris was unlucky this year.
