Review: 6 Months Aboard the Specialized Levo SL eMTB
I recently did a 25mi, 5200’ climb on the Levo SL in 3:05 hours moving time along side 10+ full fat EMTB’s who most were on eco in order to ensure they had juice. I’ve done this very same ride on a 540wh Decoy in 3:07 moving time. Both close to fully depleting the battery at the end of the ride. But as some have stated, it depends on your weight. I’m 155lbs and my LSL is under 37lbs with pedals included at the time. Currently it’s got a Zeb and coil shock and weighs 39 but I am running an Assegai EXO+ out back and Assegai EXO up front.

Spesh always discounts their bikes. You can pick up an S-Works for $10-11k or their comp for $6k if you are ok with Fox Performance suspension

2023 Pinkbike Awards: eMTB of the Year Nominees
Biggest issue is the drag. It weighs more overall but I don’t mind the weight since you are putting it the BB area and taking weight off the rear wheel which improves suspension performance. The drag is the killer here. Some jumps require you to pedal into it to clear the jump. There’s a handful of jumps where you need to get to 25mph. Doing this is already hard on a 55lb Ebike with aggressive DH tires, imagine adding even more drag to the motor. It will be way worse for the EU and Other areas. A bigger battery is needed to offset the extra drag. There is no published study about how less efficient it is but what if you need a 750wh battery to do what a 630 can do with a traditional drivetrain. Thats even more weight.

Intra Drive's Combined Motor & Gearbox Fits Bikes Designed For Shimano EP8 [Updated on expanding into the aftermarket]
Possibly…. There is extra drag and it will likely suck really hard to have to pedal past the speed limiter to clear a jump. Even worse for European countries. If the limiter was removed, now we’re talking. Just need a battery with a bit more capacity to offset the extra drag

Thought Experiment: How Good Could e-Bikes Get?
Higher energy density may equal higher thermal runnaway and can prove too dangerous for a mountain bike riding in the forest. Stick with the safest least combustible batteries possible for emtb’s.

Sadly, no big droppers on this frame with the charge port right there on the seat tube. Huge mistake on their part doing that.

Fezzari Launches Timp Peak Long Travel eMTB
@Bunabe: the Shimano motor is the most efficient at lower power modes. Even better than Levo/Kenevo SL, Bosch and Brose. At full torque it’s about the same, depending on bike kinematic. I own an Orbea Rise and I have done 3,230m, 80km with two Range extender (360wh + 504 wh) in 5.5 hours. I have done 2,900m, 70km on a Pole Voima with 2 750wh batteries in 4.5 hours. The EP8 was way more efficient in my testing. It depends on the bike
