Podcast: Rob Warner Opens Up
@zoobab2: Not that he's biased or anything. I'm pretty sure Rob himself acknowledges that when he was pissed on air screaming rambling nonsense on Freecaster it was objectively shit coverage. (Except for the one-liners)

Video: World Cup Overall Winner Loic Bruni's 2023 Season Recap
@cro-magnon: To shed some light on the light, Discovery owns ESO ;-) To be more precise, Play Sports Group and DNI Europe Holdings own ESO. DNI Europe Holdings also owns Play Sports Group. Discovery owns DNI Holdings Europe. So long story short, Discovery have a much, much greater level of control over the UCI WC series than Red Bull had.

@betsie: It's definitely not a coincidence, but that doesn't mean it's what you say it is either. Discovery have a contract not just for the broadcast but for the overall organisation of UCI MTB racing. They run the whole thing. So yes, the new look and style of course taping is a Discovery thing, as is the new semi finals format etc. But RedBull did not have the same contract as Discovery, they just had the broadcast rights and everything else was run by the UCI. So (AFAIK) RedBull did not tape the courses poorly because RedBull did not tape the courses.

@snotrag: I have to agree. Good quality commentary is important, but if people can't imagine watching DH racing without one particular commentator then in what sense do they actually like watching DH racing? The paywall thing is more relevant for a niche sport and there is for sure a risk in cutting down an already small viewership. For me it's not a big deal because of everything else that comes with Eurosport/Discovery so I get all the Road racing, MTB racing, Alpine Skiing and Sport climbing that I follow for one subscription. But I can see how people who only want the one thing are going to be frustrated.

Top 10 Pinkbike Stories of 2023
@gabriel-mission9: As it says in the first paragraph, 'based on page views'. Therefore the fact that the article didn't feature in the most viewed list isn't a them problem, it's an us problem.

Pinkbike Poll: What's The Least Awful Word That Means 'Not An E-Bike'?
"I'm going to stick with 'bike'." But if that battle's been lost I'd go with traditional, shortened to trad. As with trad climbing the community will soon be made up almost entirely of strange, beardy counterculture types who enjoy suffering more to achieve the same thing. And I'd be proud to stay one of them ;p

UPDATE: Nukeproof, Vitus, Chain Reaction Cycles & Wiggle Face Uncertainty as Parent Company in Financial Trouble
@dotman: Haha, brilliant, so no realisation yet, you’re just going to keep digging. Don’t you think it’s obvious that you’re so desperate to sound like a hard man on the internet because it’s the only place you can get away with it?

@dotman: quite the gym that makes you taller. Exactly my point. Why would my frame size mean I’m a ten stone weakling? It was a very silly thing for you to say, wasn’t it And yes, flipped your lid. When you’ve calmed down, or slept it off, or whatever is going on with you, come back and have a look at the exhibition you’ve made of yourself simply because I pointed out you were wrong about what some newspapers said about Brexit. If you’re lucky, you might come to some kind of realisation.

UPDATE: Nukeproof, Vitus, Chain Reaction Cycles & Wiggle Face Uncertainty as Parent Company in Financial Trouble
@dotman: Errr, so in your mind someone would have to upsize their frame after going to the gym for 6 months or….? Speaking of small, you’ve absolutely flipped your lid because I’ve pointed out that you were factually wrong about a single statement. C’mon man, why are you doing this to yourself?

UPDATE: Nukeproof, Vitus, Chain Reaction Cycles & Wiggle Face Uncertainty as Parent Company in Financial Trouble
@dotman: Is this the worlds worst stand up routine? You’re saying that I can’t handle a difference of opinion while at the same time threatening to beat me up, calling me a wimp and saying my mum never loved me... just because I pointed out that you misremembered what some newspapers said seven years ago. You do see the irony, don’t you? By the way - very telling that you’re only happy talking tough because you think I’m smaller than you. Great image of yourself you’re sending out there.
