Hub is fucked

Hub is dead

Your bearings are blown out. the noise is coming from the bearing cage. It has a crack in it, and when stress is on it, it stops a ball over it and gets popped out. When you take it out, it's probably going to come out in little pieces all over the floor.

Shit... ok. I need a new hub then. I have £70 to buy and lace one.

No, you need to pull the bearing out, read the letters/numbers that are on the plastic seal, and consult any bearing supply company or bike shop, or even contact the company that made the hub.

Get a new bearing. I'd rather spend $10.00 on a new bearing than $220.00 on a new hub.

ah, thanks Smile Youve saved me some cash

 only if its sealed bearings

Ya, like everyone said, its the bearings. if it it loose ball, loosed the cone/flat nut barely any, to wear it turns easy, and then retighten just the flat nut on the cone nut. you will need to get flat wrenches. If its cartridge, take out the axel, then the bearings, and put new ones in. good luck. Big Grin

I had the cash so i bought a new ns hub to avoid bother. This one is 5 years old anyway and super heavy
  • + 1
 ok, well that works too.

your hub seems too tight, try taking the wheel off, and see if you can rotate the axel with your fingers, like grab the tyre with one hand, and rotate the axel with the other hand...
  • + 1
 I will try it

Bearings or chain too tight either can cause the clicking and stop the wheel from spinning freely. Could also be damaged bearings
  • + 1
Ok. This is a 5/6 year old hub anyway so it might be past it
  • + 1
bearing mate, my profile did it and i took it bits just too find everything completely screwed Frown

i think you chain is too tight. that can make the free hub make this noise. slacken the chain off.
