Ummmm...care to explain? I am profundly confused...

we live in a place with lots of rotten wood available... some dumb local kids use this stuff to build dangerous things that get people hurt. if they would build it strong enough to last we would leave it. we want nice trails not shit made of twigs

Not us Caz, Gavin's idea. Thanks for the credit though...HILARIOUS FLIP OUT!

fuck you jeremy your the one who put that jump at the end that Ryan crashed over. Zak had just as much input to this as well as me. in all fairness Ryan we didn't get to test ride it, so we probably would have fixed it if we could have felt how crappy it was. hilarious vid though

fuck you guys! learn how to fucking build, i mean really you guys know better. you guys build so much shit that just gets torn down. have u not learned.

really need to step your game.your givin shasta trails a bad name.

Have you seen the EZBJ yet?

it doesn't matter if you tested it or not. be realistic. planking made out of half rotten sticks. and bracing of thin trees. doesn't work where we live, this is not the shore. here you have to use machined non rotten lumber. or dirt and rock(packed very well) and yes you guys are giving a bad name to a trail system we're all trying to expand on. go to ashland and look at how they build. also keep in mind that others that ride here are at different or higher skill levels so stop putting little stunts in the middle of the trail. if you wanna build a little ramp to nothing or a steep tiny jump to flat do it to the side so you dont mess up the flow of the trail. notice when we build our own jump we do it to the side and make completely new lines. so others can enjoy the original if wanted. plus you should always build to the next level. thats how you progress

what the f*ck are we gonna put on sigmoid that is the next level. There was a shitty ass jump in the middle of a trail and a down tree on it so we decided to make a catwalk.
What the f*ck do you guys build anyway. This is one of the only sketch things we have built that is relatively low skill level. Most of the stuff we have built has been doubles that are pretty decent.
The wood we used wasnt rotten either. MOst of it was 2 x 4 that we found under the logride and like 2 inch wood that we cut from a downed tree. If you want to give us or hike in wood and pay for it, that is cool. This style is shasta style, this style fits all our other trails (look at the a-frame on bone crusher that is litterally falling apart when u ride it).
Also, did you look at the other catwalk we built before it and the extension to the logride's ride on. those are leggit catwalks that we used a chainsaw to make, but that is the probablem in that. You cant alwasys hall in a chainsaw and spend hours cutting planks.
As for the ashland shit you said. They actually have people building stuff together as a network. Have you ever stopped and really looked at how much wood is used in 1 feature. Sure that would be sick to make, but the cost of 1 feature could be a hundred or more. If we would all go up in a day or two and build together we could get rid of all these problems and build more things.

don't tell us that we give shasta trails a bad name because we put in our time and effort to the trails to improve them. I never see you guys going out and repairing the trails... we may have built one catwalk that was sketch, but the rest are fine, and you guys don't make anything

We just had a storm that fell about ten thousand dollars worth of wood and all that needs to be done is use that shit instead of twigs. And about us not doing anything to help out the trails, you better thank Fred and I for clearing out the entire tunnel trail over two days or you wouldn't be riding shit right now. The shit you guys build is not shasta style. dont give us a bad rep. Read Chads second comment and abide by that.

 Some FACTS:
1. cthorpe is correct about everything he wrote and everyone who desires to build on the local trails should abide by what he has said. 2. The A-Frame catwalk at the top of 8mi is a perfect example of good trail building. It may be falling apart by now but it has stood solid for nearly seven years. And it has alternate lines so that people dont kill themselves trying to hit it.
3. I have recently packed a 24" chainsaw from midway down 8mi to the bottom of the tunnel trails on foot with a pick and shovel, it can be done if you really care about the trails and want to do a good building job. If your gonna build put some effort into it.
4. Good trail building does not require tons of money. It does require a LOT of time and effort. If you dont posess the time and/or effort then dont go spending 1 hour building a piece of shit that will last no time at all and get someone hurt.
5. Almost everyone contributes to the trails in the area. The only bad thing is that people dont know what they are doing and should stay out of it until they get some experience. If it werent for a handfull of people, who I am not going to name here, we would not have most of the trails that we have today. Either that or they would be blown out pieces of shit that nobody wants to ride.

yeah, and the wood we used was from fallen trees. The only problem, like i said earlier, is that its hard to carry a chainsaw down the trail every time. Good job fred, you carried a chainsaw down a trail, we have too; just not that time. I'm fine with you guys doing all the work if your just gonna shit talk the stuf we build or fix.
  • + 2
Okay yea I get that, my point isn't just that I carried a chainsaw down the trail. I spent three solid days just cutting out trees. Its that if someone is gonna build or work on them, put all your effort into it and do a good job because everyone rides these trails. I have lots of spare time right now so I have been working the trails just as much if not more as I have been riding. I am not trying to shit talk anything or anyone in particular, its just that it sucks when u go to ride a trail that was fine and some new feature is there that doesn't last or is dangerous. BTW, I think the new building done on the log ride was perfectly fine and well constructed. Also as far as anything I have said is not meant to target any one person or group such as yourselves, it should stand for everyone.

you can argue and defend what you build. but the bottom line? if its flimsy, made of anything rotten in any way, or not built correctly its getting pulled out. if its built right(log rides cut from downed trees are good) and made to last through the heavy winters, then it will be left alone. also an example of being responsible: the big drop at the top of 8. even though its has lasted 4 years we are tearing it out as soon as the snow melts. because we know its been hammered and is getting dangerous. something completely different and at the next level will be put in its place. all features even when built correctly have to be rebuild or changed over time. but the point is that its lasted several years! proper trail building is hard work, and takes long hours. if you dont have the determination or the skill then go build in your backyard to learn how. please do that before putting stuff on a local trail where others might get injured. also, the forest service does look at our trails. anything they dont like gets pulled out as well. and for the most part anything built within sight of a forest service road i can almost guarantee will get pulled out too. theres a couple of us currently working with them to establish building standards and hopefully some fund raisers. They will support us 100% if we do it right. all of you can be involved if YOU want to be. on a side note. Cliffhanger trail has been repaired and buffed top to bottom. only thing left is one big tree towards the bottom. if someone is near there with a chainsaw soon. it would be awesome to get it cut out. if i owned one it would be done already

Good to hear about the FS support. I think there's a petition down at fifth season that involves the FS. Rode cliffhanger yesterday and its perfect. I might get up there today and cut out that tree.
  • + 1
bottom line is that there should not be any more shitty jumps or cat walks in the middle of the trail. Or it will be torn out. doesnt matter who built it. if its shitty then it will get torn out. im sure everyone can agree on that.
  • + 1
The jump that was there before was shitty!! granted what we built wasn't much better, but I believe that the little skateboard jump should be made into a proper jump or catwalk.

Yes the catwalk we made was crap...

NO, we do not build stuff like this on the trails... like I said we were just trying to improve the stupid jump that was there.

BTW we spent a couple days clearing out this trail; repairing berms, cutting trees, and building jumps. If you go and ride it now, you will notice a nice properly built catwalk over a fallen log that was made entirely of fallen logs. we also built the jump at the beginning

all i hear is excuses, like i said if its shitty say good bye to it whatever is built and to who ever build it. i dont care to hear about what u did or didnt do, im just sayin that if its shitty its most likely coming out ethier by me or chad, jeff, ryan or anybody that one else that cares about our local trails. same goes for u if you see something thats shitty or very poorly built by all means tear it out. there no need to get butt hurt. so fuck all this argueing and lets all take care of the fuckin trails

  • + 1
Is that another name you made up for a trail that was established about twenty years before you guys were born. Or is this one you guys built?
