Sram 2X10 Chapter3 - World Cup Downhill Racing 2010

Steve Peat won the 2009 DH World Championships on a prototype SRAM 10-speed drivetrain. For 2010 many of SRAM's top DH riders have chosen 10-speed because of the great advantages it provides, and their results have proven them right.

Greg and Sram are trying to tell us that more gears and closer ratio is a good thing... (Which is bollocks)

Then they release a wide(r) ratio 6 speed cassette for Brendan and Sam.

i agree. first of all i never used all 9 of my gears when i ride anyways, as do most people. And secondly, they have greg and steve talking about their 10 speed set up and how good it is while sam and brendan are running 6 speed set ups. its about time they cut to the chase and tell us which one is actually more beneficial!

It depends on how you ride though, Sam and Brendan just prefer less gears and a large difference in between gears and Greg and Steve like having more gears with small difference. I would prefer 6 speed because I stay on the same gear throughout runs (my trails are piss short) and because I normally ride in gear 6 of 9 so that would be about gear 4 of 6 so I still have a few either side, and I would feel that I use all my gears rather than leave out the extremes. But a 10 speed would allow more precision I suppose... just my opinion Razz

The 6 speed setups don't have more spacing, they just have a stopper on the low end and a specially modified shifter so that it doesn't go that low in the first place.
