for an aspiring bike mechanic this was incredibly helpfull to learn the processes that a pro bike team such as crc nukeproof goes through to get the fastest pace possible Salute

interesting about the temp change with the tyre pressure...out of interest rougly how much pressure do you loose when removing the pump from the vavle (i have presta inner-tubes if this makes a difference)?

i fully agree up to 8 psi is alot of difference just due to the outside temperature! and as far as i know (becuase i use presta's aswell) all the air you hear released is just from the pump but thats just what friends have told me.

I'd like to see a tech tuesday on how to change the heavy grease for light oil (if it makes that big a difference I definitely want to give it a try)

So when he says you should check the spoke tension and then talks about "allowing vertical and horizontal compliance" is he really suggesting making the wheels deflect more by lowering the tension? I must be misunderstanding because this guy knows his stuff and this line of reasoning is pretty hard for me to swallow.

8psi, what a load of shit. Do the calks, its not that hard. If you have 26psig in your tires at 10degrees c and the air temp hoes up to 26degrees c, the tire pressure goes up to 28.2psig so 2.2psig. to get a 8psi rise, the air temp would need to rise to 65degrees c!
