OK...question for you guys... Why are there usually two odd cuts in all the stumps around here?? You can see them in the stump on the left at 1:49...

We dont have trees big enough to carve anything in to where I'm from, so excuse my ignorance!

I think they are for springboards. Loggers cut a springboard notch into which they insert the springboard, which is then used as a platform, allowing the logger to stand above obstructions/snow or to cut higher-up where the trunk is narrower.

That was a very insightful picture. I too as a born and raised California beach bum had no idea. Great action packed video man! I look forward to your videos and pictures. We dream of trails like this here in Japan. I have built a lot over the last 5years but the continues flow of drop after drop into gap after gap and flowing berms is amazing! Awesome, you guys rock!
