 OK...question for you guys... Why are there usually two odd cuts in all the stumps around here?? You can see them in the stump on the left at 1:49...

We dont have trees big enough to carve anything in to where I'm from, so excuse my ignorance!

 I think they are for springboards. Loggers cut a springboard notch into which they insert the springboard, which is then used as a platform, allowing the logger to stand above obstructions/snow or to cut higher-up where the trunk is narrower.
