Marzocchi Drop Off IV making stange sounds

I want to know how to fix the knocking sound that the fork does when I start the wheelie

The rebound is too fast and needs to be slowed down.
Depending on what fork you using this can be easy or difficult.

If your fork does not have an external adjuster you will have to add a heavier oil weight.
For example the standard oil is 7.5 so adding 10wt or 15 wt oil can make a good difference.

What fork do you have and how do you have it set up?
Do you have air preload in the system?

Its my Marzocchi Drop Off IV 150mm.. Im gonna adjust the rebound. If it continues making that sound, I will try with different oil WTs..

And i don't know very well about the internals of a fork..

does it have a rebound adjuster?
Also if you air pressure is too high it tops out bad with fast rebound.
So, slowing it down will helps lose the sound but the fork will feel really slow.

The drop out has air preload on both sides.
And the rebound rod is on the right side.
It might have an internal adjuster but its hard to adjust if you dont know what to do.

Another way is to take out the current oil and put a heavier oil.
But if the rebounds port is fully open then heavier oil will have little effect, hahhahah

RideOn man!

Yeah, it uses air, and I always put about 20 psi on both sides. It has a rebound adjuster, the problem is that I have to open the fork from the top and use a screwdriver to move it as specified on the manual. I can do it, but im not a mechanic and i'm afraid of doing something wrong and damage the internals of the fork so Im gonna check it out with the guys on the workshop. Your recomendations are useful, now I know what's the problem. Thanks guys! Gracias!

20psi in both sides! WOW it must be super stiff Amigo. Im sure you can get away with about 4-6 psi in both sides and that alone will take away your harsh top out. Try lowering the air and see how it feels. Take it to your shop and let them help you! RidEOn buddy!

I know! but sag was high and I didn't like it at all. I felt that it was gonna bottom out with any jump. And yes, im gonna take it to the shop.. By the way, thanks!

Yes, thats hard to tell. If sag was high then adding air was good. I wonder if you have the right springs in this fork. Because I weigh 200 pounds and 20psi in each side when there should be springs in there seems very high. Please let your shop dial it in for you buddy! RideOn!

Well, I don´t know, but with high pressure sag was reduced a lot.. So im shure i have to adjust the rebound.. By the way, i weight 72 KG.
  • + 1
 I weight 92kg, hahahhahhaha
  • + 1
How tall are you? im about to reach 1.80
  • + 1
Yes, Im at 182cm so we are close but I have 10 years of weight on you, hahahhah RidEOn!
  • + 1
Hahaha true.. last week I was 1.79. Same as my dad! But Niko with those 10 years more you still ride amazing! hahaha
  • + 1
hhahhahahhhahaha Thank you buddy! I hope to ride and have fun for a long time now! You too ride hard and ride have fun! Its cool you passed your dad, he must be feeling old now, hahhahahhahha
  • + 1

Part of the problem might be that you're using the wrong air pressure in the fork.
How much sag do you have in the fork ?

Coil preload air pressure (right leg):
0 - 1.0 bar ( 0.00 - 14.50psi )

Positive air pressure (left leg):
Riders Weight.................= Air Pressure..............................
55 - 70 kg ( 121 - 154 lb ) = 2.00 - 2.75 bar ( 29.00 - 39.88 psi )
70 - 80 kg ( 154 - 176 lb ) = 2.40 - 3.10 bar ( 34.80 - 44.95 psi )
80 - 95 kg ( 176 - 209 lb ) = 2.90 - 3.80 bar ( 42.05 - 55.10 psi )

Try changing the air pressure first and see if that changes anything.

If you need to adjust the rebound you'll need a 12mm allen key that's about 200mm long

If you don't feel confident doing the adjustment yourself then print off the relevant pages on how to do it from the manual and show the guys in the workshop.

Well, my weight is 72Kg and I used to have 15PSI on the right and 30PSI on the left. Then I noticed the strong rebound and lowered to 20PSI on both to try out, but the sag was high and the rebound was also strong.. the sag when i'm sitting is about 15-20mm with 20PSI and 15PSI on the right.. I'll take it to he guys on the workshop, they should have the tools and they should also know about this problem.. I'm not gonna ride for a while that's for shure!

Have you tried a lower pressure then 15 psi right leg ?

Some people run 0 psi or a very low pressure like 1 or 2 psi.
  • + 1
I used to have 20, then 15, but let me check. I will put 35PSI on he left leg and 3 on the right one. It may help, but i think it needs a rebound adjust and an oil change...
  • + 1
Did you lower the Coil preload air pressure in the right leg ?

The Marzocchi Rider/Weight positive air pressures for the left leg are only starting points.

Lower the coil preload air pressure in the right leg to 0 psi then pump up the positive air pressure in the the left leg to what ever pressure it takes you to get 25 to 30mm sag and see if that changes anything.

I used 35 psi on the left and no air on the right and it stopped making that sound! It did worked! but anyway I think it needs an oil change.. Thanks guys!

Mines doing this and im tempted to sell them. I bought them like this a years back but with me not riding much I havn't done much about it.

Mine do not have the external adjusters Frown I think mine are 2005 ones or 2007. Silver stantions.

I just sold that thing and bought a BoXXer. I never solved the problem but I think it was rebound and something inside that wasn't working.

Y gracias Smile

 Rebound is too fast ...
  • + 1
Yeah, it bounces very hard, some say it may the the oil..
  • + 1
Not The Oil For Sure . Personnaly I think its your rebound , try to make it slower ...
  • + 1
Okay, im gonna check it out with the guys on the workshop. By the way thanks for your help..
