it works by automatically taking a photo every few seconds (this one was every 4 seconds) and then you basically put them into a slideshow, and make each picture last like 0.05 seconds, so it plays through really quickly.
For a DSLR you can get some software called DSLR remote pro which does this for you if you plug in a camera.
For a canon camera (like mine) theres some awesome hack software that doesn't actually go onto your camera, just your memory card, called CHDK. to install it theres videos on youtube
